Language is one thing. Physical distance is another. But the biggest issue when off/nearshoring is *cultural* distance. Having developers that natively understand the cultural context in which the software they're building operates is critical. That's why I tend to prefer LatAm over Asia/Oceania. With almost 20% of the US now hispanic (and major markets like NY, LA, and Miami way, way, way more latin), the cultural distance between the US and Argentina, Colombia, and Mexico is basically insignificant. And as the world becomes more global, English levels are rapidly improving as well. Cultural distance first. Language second. Physical distance third.
