HBCU History is WORLD History. Here are five examples: 1️⃣ Although HBCUs represent a small percentage of America’s higher education landscape, they graduate nearly 50% of Black teachers, 70% of Black doctors and dentists, and 80% of Black lawyers. 2️⃣ Morehouse College was the first higher education institution to offer classes in the Metaverse. 3️⃣ HBCUs became a safe haven for jewish professors during the Nazi Germany era such as Albert Einstein. 4️⃣ Tuskegee University in Tuskegee, AL, was the first HBCU to be registered as a national historic landmark and the only HBCU to be a national historic site. 5️⃣ In 1960, four students from North Carolina Agricultural and Technical College held a sit-in at the local Woolworth’s store. This sparked a movement of sit-ins across the Southern U.S. And this is just the tip of the iceberg! 🧊 Check out the video below to hear 23 more pieces of world history brought on by HBCUs: https://lnkd.in/gp6DaMSb

Continuing to educate & diversify our countries future leaders through HBCU is critical.
Since first established, Historically Black Colleges and Universities (#HBCUs) have been critical in developing successful #Blackprofessionals. They have become beacons of academic excellence, yet remain underfunded. With equitable funding, the impact of these #colleges and #universities could grow significantly. U.S. brands are uniquely positioned to help bridge this gap. By making substantial, long-term investments in HBCUs, brands can become meaningful allies with HBCUs and their students, mutually benefitting both. As HBCUs continue to be at the crossroads of academia and culture, brands have the opportunity to develop genuine partnerships with these colleges and universities to help drive the funding they need. In doing so, brands support the development of professionals, athletes and others who move our society forward with diverse thinking and action. Read more. https://bit.ly/3SCnA6v

I’m a product of the #hbcu community and 100% agree with Mr Robert F. Smith’s assessment! As we approach February- the month where LOVE and American History is celebrated, I hope more organizations see the value of investing capital in historically underfunded colleges and universities. #blackhistorymonth #deistrategy #wealthmanagement #intergenerationalwealth

🌟 Celebrating the Legacy of Historic Black Universities: A Testament to Progress 🌟 Yesterday marked a significant milestone as one of our Senior Advisors, Mervyn Jones, coordinated pivotal meetings for Fisk University at both the Department of Education and Capitol Hill. HBCUs have long stood as beacons of opportunity, resilience, and excellence in higher education. They have played an instrumental role in shaping the trajectory of countless lives, breaking barriers, and fostering innovation, including the lives of two of our Partners, Rontel Batie, MPS (FAMU) and Eboni M. Batie (Hampton/Howard.) At Batie and Associates, we recognize the profound impact that HBCUs have on our society and economy. That's why we are proud to stand in solidarity with these institutions, advocating for their interests at the highest levels of government. Our efforts not only amplify the voices of HBCUs but also pave the way for meaningful dialogue and action. In an era where diversity, equity, and inclusion are paramount, supporting HBCUs is not just a moral imperative but a strategic necessity. They serve as engines of opportunity, empowering generations of students from diverse backgrounds to pursue their dreams and make meaningful contributions to society. Let us recommit ourselves to championing the cause of HBCUs and advancing equity in education. Together, we can build a future where every individual, regardless of race or background, has the opportunity to thrive and succeed. #HBCUs #Diversity #Inclusion #GovernmentRelations #Equity #Education #Leadership

The United Negro College Fund just scored a cool $100 million, and that's more than just a number, it's a supernova igniting the potential of Black excellence across America. Think of it like a victory lap for every dreamer who dared to defy #JimCrow walls and built educational empires on foundations of resilience and hope. This isn't just about cash, it's about catapulting #HBCUs into the future, amplifying their impact, and proving that melanin-powered brilliance deserves center stage. Sure, critics might grumble about acronyms and historical baggage. But let's not get lost in the noise. This is about celebrating HBCUs as incubators of Black leadership, innovation, and cultural vibrancy. From doctors to lawyers, musicians to engineers, these institutions have birthed generations of changemakers who defied limitations and carved their own paths to success. Let's amplify the voices of HBCUs, support their students, celebrate their achievements, and rewrite the future where educational equity isn't a dream, but a reality. #BlackExcellence #EducationForAll #HBCUMakeTheirMark#InvestingInFutures #BeyondTheFunding #TogetherWeRise#PowerInMelanin #RewritingTheNarrative

🎓 The Power of HBCUs: A Legacy of Resilience and Excellence 🎓 Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs) were founded out of necessity and determination. Following the Civil War and the abolition of slavery, Black Americans were still largely excluded from the nation's higher education system due to segregation. HBCUs were established to provide African Americans access to quality education at a time when opportunities were severely limited. 𝐖𝐡𝐲 𝐖𝐞𝐫𝐞 𝐇𝐁𝐂𝐔𝐬 𝐄𝐬𝐭𝐚𝐛𝐥𝐢𝐬𝐡𝐞𝐝? ◾ To Overcome Barriers – Before the Civil Rights Movement, mainstream colleges and universities refused to admit Black students. HBCUs became essential in offering educational opportunities to this marginalized community. ◾ To Build a Skilled Workforce – Initially, HBCUs focused on vocational training and teacher education to equip African Americans with skills needed in their communities and the workforce. ◾ To Empower Through Education – HBCUs provided a safe and affirming environment where Black students could excel academically, cultivate leadership skills, and uplift their communities. Join us on Tuesday, 11/12/24 at 6PM for a FREE virtual roundtable where you will hear from HBCU students and alumni and learn more about the unique opportunities and experiences offered by Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs). You will find your confidence, community, and cultural pride at your HBCU. For many alumni, including Hampton University’s Monique Kelley, attending an HBCU gave us the courage to step into the world with purpose, equipped with the education and experience to chase our dreams. AND there’s something uniquely beautiful about doing it with peers who look like you and understand your journey. In a world where Diversity does and continues to take different shapes and lends a unique advantage to those who embrace and leverage it effectively, so does belonging. HBCUs have long been incubators of belonging. A hub to build one’s foundation before going out into the world, emboldened by a stronger sense of identity. 📌 If you are open to the journey, attending an HBCU will embolden your personal confidence and belief in your abilities. 📌 HBCUs will shape your sense of belonging and purpose. HBCUs saved my career before it even started. Graduating high school with an impressive 5.5 GPA, I thought the world was at my feet. Little did I know, the path to greatness wasn't a straight line, but a winding journey. After just one semester at Bethune-Cookman, I found myself teetering on the edge of flunking out. It was a wake-up call. The illusion of having it all crashed, but in the wreckage, I tapped into my HBCU Community. In the midst of my struggle, two pillars emerged: Drs. Mowatt and Yahya. These Black male educators became more than mentors; they were beacons of wisdom, guiding me through the storm. Their support was my compass, steering me back on course. Surrounded by daily displays of Black excellence, I learned a vital lesson – my journey needn't mirror anyone else's. It was a revelation that reshaped my mindset. Life, as I realized, is 10% what happens and a staggering 90% how you respond. Failing early and often became my mantra, a stepping stone rather than a stumbling block. This newfound resilience propelled me not only to graduate with a bachelor's degree but two master's degrees as well. To my fellow high achievers and perfectionists: Embrace your mistakes; grace starts with yourself. HBCUs aren't just institutions; they are transformative spaces where challenges morph into triumphs, and dreams find wings. #HBCUJourney #BlackExcellence #TriumphOverAdversity #iseeyouhbcu #bethunecookman #blackmaleeducators

As part of our continued celebration of Black History Month, today we’re shining the spotlight on the Columbia Business School Black Business Students Association! 💫 ❓What is the core aspect of the BBSA's work and why is it so critical? ❓ To be a community for Black-identifying students and allies that promotes academic, professional and personal development and success. This is critical to the past, present, and future of not only Black-identifying students, alumni and allies, but also to increase the collective potential of the CBS community. ❓ What is the most common challenge the BBSA helps others overcome? ❓ Turbulent access to resources, capital, and opportunity. By building connections strong connections within our community, we empower people to increase their agency and participation in their careers, community, and classrooms. ❓ Are there any pieces of advice you feel have helped students or alumni the most? ❓ 1. Lift As You Climb - as you continue to elevate to new heights, always take action towards creating opportunities, and increasing access for others. 2. Know when to be the student, know when to be the teacher - there is a lesson in every experience, and even seasoned expertise can benefit from constant learning. BBSA is hosting their 42nd annual ELEVATE conference upcoming in March – learn more here: https://lnkd.in/gJWuQdpH To learn more about BBSA, visit their website at https://lnkd.in/gaXE9qDK #blackhistorymonth #entrepreneurship #communityorganization #bhm #celebration
