Why have the number of Family Offices tripled over the past 3 years? And perhaps equally important, which asset classes are they investing in? Robert Frank brilliantly points out in this article: https://lnkd.in/gzMgkEsj "While many institutional investors are trimming their alternative investments such as hedge funds and private equity, Family Offices are pouring even more money into the sector, according to a new study. KKR’s Family Office survey of 75 chief investment officers around the world found that Family Offices had 52% of their portfolios invested in alternative investments in 2023, up from 42% in 2022. The growth in alternatives is coming at the expense of almost every other asset class, as their cash holdings fell from 11% to 9% from 2022 to 2023, and their holdings of publicly traded stocks fell from 32% to 29%." #familyoffice #privateequity #realestate Credit: Robert Frank (Text & Video)

In my conversations with clients across our Wealth Management business, I often am asked about the drivers behind the growth in private assets, as well as the trends, challenges, and opportunities investors can watch for in the alternatives market. In our new video series, we explore some of these topics and more, including how general partners are adapting to challenging market conditions with innovative solutions – like creating opportunities for investors to become liquidity providers through secondary private equity. Excellent presentation from Nick Griffin on public vs private equity markets and the fact that liquidity is worth something, even if it is intangible. But the highlight was posing the question as to why the Big 4 private market firms are LISTED!!!

6moHedge funds going under the radar as family office to avoid regulation. Is that a good development? May be if you are an alternatives consultant like Albourne who has all the tools in house to monitor these. For many manager selectors the world has become more complicated.
