In our latest article, "The Economy of Partnership: Balancing Sustainability, Profitability, and Control," Tim Sheehan explores the decision to adopt the OPM model and its significant implications. While this route offers a predictable profit share by outsourcing marketing and recruitment, it constrains revenue growth solely to increased enrollments. On the other hand, adopting a fee-for-service (FFS) model empowers universities to take charge of their strategy and finances. This approach provides greater transparency in marketing costs, the flexibility to strategically design initiatives, and holds partners accountable through clearly defined success metrics. It emphasizes that re-engagement involves not only practical support but also emotional and social integration. “In terms of teaching, AI is not going to lower the cost of education,” John Katzman said. “In the end, the faculty and the relationship between students and faculty is just too important to dilute. So it’s how do you make teaching better, how do you have faculty spending less time doing road work and answering the same questions for the 20th time, and more time engaging students directly? On the administration side, (using AI) is about cost savings. There are a variety of ways schools can become more efficient and at the same time more responsive and better for students.” The second and final day of the New England College of Optometry’s (NECO) fourth annual Industry Collaborative, “Health Equity in Eyecare,” featured a spirited panel discussion on the current scope of practice in optometry as well as a fireside chat from John Katzman, founder and CEO of Noodle, on artificial intelligence (AI) and education, hosted by Howard Purcell, OD, FAAO, current president of NECO. "I had a mentor who said, sometimes when you're leading, you should look behind you, because maybe you're just taking a walk...So I set out some years ago to blow up the OPM industry and as that actually worked out, we realized we looked a little bit like an OPM, we were kind of in the proximate area of the the blast, and we had to really change how we positioned ourselves, how we priced, how we thought about the company, to make sure that if we were successful we weren't a victim." "20% of the cost of higher ed is teaching. Another 20% is student services and academic support. You can't use technology to change the class of instruction because it's all about the student faculty relationship. But you can make yourself a lot more efficient..." https://bit.ly/3APnUJF #higheredinnovation #agilecampus #datadriveschange #higheredpartners #publicprivate
