🌟 Did you know that only 18% of people experiencing homelessness are chronically homeless, meaning they’ve been without a home for three or more years? 🌟 Most people have a default image in their minds of a homeless person, often picturing someone who is chronically homeless. However, this represents only a small portion of those experiencing homelessness. The majority are in need of a temporary helping hand to get back on their feet. At Homeless ID Project, we provide essential identification documents that open doors to housing, employment, and vital services. Every ID we issue is a step toward ending homelessness for good. [Homelessness in Manchester] Will you make the difference today? I’m proud to be a Trustee of the Booth Centre, a community centre in Manchester run with people affected by homelessness.     As our 2022-2023 Impact Report shows, we’re making a difference to 1,000+ people annually. Section 21 no-fault evictions reached an all-time high in 2023, with more than 7,400 cases being brought before the courts. Added to this, anyone receiving a positive outcome to their asylum case is served with a 28-day notice to quit. But our resources are limited. We urgently need donations to ensure we can continue to provide for people who are homeless or at risk of homelessness - Breakfast and lunch - Training and help to gain employment - Support to improve health and wellbeing - Access emergency accommodation and to secure and maintain a permanent home And many more things. As an independent charity, we rely on the generosity of our community. There were 1,178 overall attendances at Spires from April-June. 266 different people received support from Spires through that period. Here are some of the main outcomes we achieved: 🏠 56 people received housing support - 14 people supported into permanent or temporary accommodation. - 11 people provided with pre-emptive tenancy sustainment support. 👨⚕️ 29 people received health support - 10 people supported to attend a health appointment. - 11 people supported to engage with our Mental health support team. 💷 29 people offered benefits support - 8 people who have started to receive benefits. - 16 people helped to maintain benefits We have raised just over £500 in the first week of our crowdfunding campaign, but we need much more to continue achieving outcomes like these. In 2022, over 60% of homeless families in England were single-parent. According to Shelter, 1 in 7 single parent household renting privately are facing homelessness within weeks. The Single Homeless Project charity found that 1 in 38 lone mothers in England are homeless. What is the link between single parenting and homelessness? 💴 Single-parent households often have lower incomes 📃 They are more likely to be affected by the benefit cap 🤚They can face limited access to support services, such as affordable childcare 👩👦 Sometimes they choose not to seek help out of fear of having their children removed We are delighted to have awarded 37% of all our grants to date to single-parent households. We hope that our funding will provide them with some of the support they need to overcome the unique challenges that they face.
