An H&R Block community for LGBTQ+ employees, parents of LGBTQ+ folks, and allies.

About us

COLORS stands for “Community Organizing for LGBTQ+ Opportunity, Resources, and Support,” and that sums up what we do. But who we are is a bit different. We’re a group of hundreds of internal employees chatting every day about our lives, both as LGBTQ+ individuals and H&R Block employees. We’re a resource for those same people, providing info on how H&R Block supports them. And we’re a community dedicated to giving back to at-risk LGBTQ+ groups through volunteering and fundraising. Everything we are comes back to our group goals: o Be a community for LGBTQ+ people, with resources both educational and social o Give support to that community o Cultivate understanding in H&R Block about the LGBTQ+ community o Be a bridge to the Belonging Council, the central H&R Block diversity and inclusion group o Volunteer and give back to LGBTQ+ people in our local communities For current employees, join our main community by searching for “COLORS at H&R Block” in the Microsoft Teams application. For anyone else, follow our LinkedIn page here for updates on our work.

Today, we observe Transgender Day of Remembrance to memorialize the transgender people whose lives were lost in acts of anti-transgender violence. According to the Human Rights Campaign, Transgender Day of Remembrance is held in November to honor Rita Hester, whose murder on November 28, 1998, launched the “Remembering Our Dead” web project and a San Francisco vigil the following year. By recognizing this day, we not only acknowledge the hurt and loss that touches the lives of so many but also raise awareness of the violence and ongoing prejudice that the transgender community faces every day. We will continue to advocate for the trans community and their loved ones at H&R Block. #TransgenderDayofRememberance #Community #Inclusivity #TransAwarenessWeek

Last week, COLORS at H&R Block hosted a joint event with H&R Block - Women's Network. I had the pleasure of emceeing with Latasha Randle as four incredible women from H&R Block and our guest, performer and community trailblazer Landon Patterson, shared about authentic presence. From standing their ground when the most comfortable thing to do was back down, to carving out space for yourself in a field that doesn't know what to do with you, these women shared stories deeply unique to them, but connected in their boldness and authenticity. It was a gift to learn from their experiences. For H&R Block associates who missed it live, our event recap will be on AMP soon.   Sometimes it's all too easy to feel isolated in our experiences, when in truth, we can find solidarity and shared community in so many places. By hosting events together, we foster Block's culture of belonging in greater ways than we ever could alone. #diversityequityinclusionandbelonging #dei #belonging #community #belongingatblock #lgbtqcommunity

On International Pronoun Day, we provide support and cultivate understanding on the importance of utilizing the correct pronouns to address our friends, coworkers, families and more. By normalizing asking about and using the correct pronouns, we create a safer and inclusive place for the LGBTQ+ community and their loved ones at H&R Block. This day of recognition began in 2018 and takes place on the 3rd Wednesday of October each year. We will continue to advocate for policies and practices that reinforce and normalize using the correct pronouns at the workplace and beyond. #PronounsDay #InternationalPronounDay #LGBTQ #Community #Inclusivity #Pronouns

Today is National Coming Out Day. First observed in 1988, founders Robert Eichberg and Jean O'Leary hoped that celebrating coming out would bring joy and positivity to the LGBT rights movement during a tenuous time. Twenty-five years later, we're still grateful for this opportunity to share our joy. There's no wrong way to be queer, so whether you've been out for twenty years, twenty minutes, or aren't ready to come out, we hope you know you are a beautiful and unique member of our community. We're also holding space for our siblings who are unable to come out for their own safety. We send you love and continue to work for a day where we can all be out of the closet. #lgbtq+ #NationalComingOutDay #community #authenticity #inclusivity

Tomorrow is Celebrate Bisexuality Day! First celebrated in 1999 at the International Lesbian and Gay Association Conference in Johannesburg, South Africa, the day has become more widely recognized to celebrate the Bi community, but also educate and create awareness of the ongoing issues surrounding the community.   To our Bi siblings: we see you, we hear you, and love you!   #CelebrateBisexualityDay
