Chris Chibnall (born 1970) is an English television writer. He is best known for his work on the science-fiction series Torchwood and the ITV detective serial Broadchurch. On 22 January 2016 it was announced that he would become the new lead writer and executive producer of Doctor Who in 2018. He succeeded Steven Moffat as chief executive and showrunner after the broadcast of the 2017 Christmas special "Twice Upon a Time".
