Daniel Keyes

Daniel Keyes was an American author who wrote the 1966 sci-fi novel "Flowers for Algernon", later adapted into the 1968 Oscar-winning film "Charly", starring Cliff Robertson and Claire Bloom. Keyes was given the Author Emeritus honor by the Science Fiction and Fantasy Writers of America in 2000. He attended New York University briefly before joining the United States Merchant Marine at 17 during World War II, working as a ship's purser on oil tankers.
