This is a fun little tribute to murder mysteries and the musicals of Jacques Demy. Although not perfect (the pacing is a trifle slow, dragging a bit in the middle), the eight women are some of the most formidably talented and lovely actresses in French cinematic history who acquit themselves with graceful aplomb.

Catherine Deneuve, Danielle Darrieux, Virginie Ledoyen, Fanny Ardant, Emmanuelle Beart, Isabelle Huppert, Ludivine Sagnier, and Firmine Richard are all superb, investing their cardboard characters with a strange emotional resonance--and their costumes are exquisite.
