An American film, television and theatre actress who is best remembered for his performance as a tyrannical prison matron in "Caged" (1950) which earned her an Academy Award nomination for best supporting actress.
Her other films include "House of Strangers" (1949), "Adam's Rib" (1949) and "Westward the Women" (1951).
In the 1940s, Emerson became well known as the voice of Elsie the Cow in Borden Milk commercials on radio.
She also had a regular role in the television series 'Peter Gunn' (1958),
