"It is clear in this movie why the two protagonists are together. They clearly adore each other and are compatible with each other, and they also communicate with each other. The conflict comes from outside cultural pressures to give the "will they / won't they" plot, but unlike most rom-coms, these are not two characters who hate each other that we're supposed to inexplicably hope they get or stay together and they are not torn apart by simple miscommunication. "It's difficult to describe just how bad this movie is. Imagine 100 minutes of scene after scene containing obscene displays of wealth by obnoxious, pretentious, self-centered, condescending people who have complete disregard and utter contempt for anyone who's less than a billionaire. The kind of vain-glorious people you'd never want to spend a moment around. It's been labelled as a rom-com but there isn't any comedy at all in it. And, yet, the damned thing still slowly won me over though. Indeed, Constance Wu and Henry Golding made a cute couple and they had a nice chemistry together. Above all, the up and coming Awkwafina was just awesome, stealing the show every time she was on the screen time and I wish she would have had a bigger role. Furthermore, the conflict between what would be right for Nick Young as a” read more
