The new Blue and White attacker arrives as a free agent after terminating his contract with his previous club for the 2024/25 season. After completing the required medical examination at Hospital Vithas Málaga, he will immediately join the first team’s training sessions.
Sergio Castel Martínez (Madrid, 1995) is a centre forward close to 1.90 meters tall who, at 29 years old, has a considerable track record in the second and third tiers of national football. He is a traditional 'number 9' with a strong heading ability and skilled in associative play at the front of the attack.
During his formative years, Castel played in the youth ranks of CA Osasuna (2013/14). He began his football career with UE Rubí, CD Tudelano, CD Lealtad, and Las Rozas, from 2012 to 2015.
Subsequently, he tried his luck with two stints outside Spain, playing for Bendigo City FC in Australia and Than Quang Ninh FC in Vietnam. The Madrid-born player returned to Spain in 2017, with a brief spell with the AD Alcorcón reserve team. In the 2017/18 season, he signed with UD San Sebastián de los Reyes, scoring 13 league goals the following season (2018/19) in what was then known as Segunda División B.
His goal-scoring ability caught the attention of Atlético de Madrid, which included him in their reserve team (2019-21). On loan from the Madrid club, Castel played one year with Jamshedpur FC in the Indian Super League, scoring 7 goals in 11 matches, and another season back in Spain with UD Ibiza. He contributed 7 goals to help UD Ibiza achieve promotion to the second division in the 2020/21 season.
Having been acquired outright, Castel spent another season and a half with UD Ibiza, where he scored 9 goals in his debut season in LaLiga Hypermotion. In the 2022/23 season, he concluded his time in that division with Burgos CF before moving to play abroad again with Anorthosis in the Cypriot First Division. In the 2023/24 season, across all competitions, Castel netted 16 goals and made 5 assists in 35 matches.
