Based on the Alice Hoffman novel of the same name, The Dovekeepers is a two-part miniseries set in the mountain stronghold of Masada during 70 C.E., where a band of outnumbered Jews valiantly held off a legion of Romans. Told in a series of flashbacks through the eyes of two women--Shirah (Cote de Pablo), the sexy lover of Eleazar Ben Ya’ir (Mido Hamada), who uses his cunning and courage to help keep the invading flock at bay, and Yael (Rachel Brosnahan), who weaves a sorrowful tale of misfortune and loss, which includes her relationship with captured slave (Diarmaid Murtagh)--the drama tugs on the heart strings and tickles the loins, thanks to Mido Hamada’s shirtless hook-up in the grotto on the second episode.
