Biography

Joyce Hyser made it to the big screen, if not quite the big time, in the comedy The Hollywood Knights (1980) as one of its countless giggling girls. But this curly haired cutie's rise to eighties screen queen was no laughing matter. Joyce parlayed that film credit into a part as an extra in Valley Girl (1983) and then played a groupie in This Is Spinal Tap (1984). In real life, however, she was way more than a groupie to Bruce Springsteen. The two dated from 1979 to 1984. While this boss babe was exclusive to Bruce in real life, onscreen she was serenaded by Dan Hartman in the video for "I Can Dream About You." Crazily, she showed she could just as easily be a boy band dreamboat as a music video model in her biggest role, Terri Griffith in Just One of the Guys (1985). Joyce plays a girl that loses out on a newspaper internship due to a sexist male teacher, and decides to disguise herself as a boy at a local high school to write and submit a new article as a man. Along the way, she falls in love with a nerdy boy named Rick she'd been trying to help with women. Terri's boyfriend shows up at prom and exposes the ruse, leading Terri to unbutton her tuxedo and show "one of the guys" the girls. Rick is mad about the lie, but can't resist after seeing those prom night puppies, and eventually decides to date her. The small screen beckoned soon after, with Joyce playing Allison Gottlieb on ten episodes of L.A. Law, before appearing in the occasional episode of Melrose Place, Pacific Blue and Murder, She Wrote in the early 90's. Her acting became even more sporadic in the 2000's. She appeared on an episode of CSI in 2011, and in the movie The Wedding Pact (2014) three years after that. Still, Joyce's joybringers will forever have us peeking down our best friend's shirts, just in case.
