21K views · 1K reactions | This is how I like to make my bases for built-in cabinets! I learned how to do it this way from Jason at @bentswoodworking and I haven’t veered from it since. It’s pretty simple and uses extra plywood you may have laying around. Making the bases separate from the cabinet itself makes it much easier to level the bases first and then secure to the studs in the wall. Then you can just plop your cabinet boxes on top and you know they will be level. Making the upside down “L’s” for the ends of the base and the “T’s” for the middle where 2 cabinets meet up allows for you to secure your cabinets directly down into the base with a few cabinet screws. Again with all things, there’s a million ways to execute the same thing, so pick what you prefer! Callie Plemel on Instagram: "Save this post if you’re considering a kitchen renovation! A lot of people don’t realize that our kitchen cabinets are stock cabinets! We didn’t have a budget for custom cabinetry during our renovation, so we improvised with stock cabinets to create our cabinet towers. We stacked two 30 inch upper cabinets on top of a “drawer cabinet” on each side of our range to create this look. The secret is that the drawer cabinets are really 9 inch upper cabinets turned on their side! All we had to do was build a drawer box, install some drawer slides, and attach the door as a drawer front instead. (We also had to remove the doors’ hinges.) Want home tips and and tricks like this?
