In 1963 Betty Friedan published a groundbreaking work that empowered a generation of women. With World War II over, women who had been working were told to find fulfillment at home. "The moment was so pregnant and ready for an explosion," says New York Times columnist Gail Collins.

This month, as you all know, we're celebrating women's history and, this week, I'm focusing on the movers and shakers of the second-wave feminist movement. So we can't forget the godmother of the movement (well, in the eyes of some women), Betty Friedan. And y'all know this book inspired me to take my first book of short stories and rework them into Lessons From My Mother's Life (link to the book is in the blog post if you want more information).
