T O M M Y K A N E 🐿 on Instagram: "Painstakingly illustrating every page of a Moleskine sketchbook is not the hard part, filming the stupid flip through video when I’m done is the most frustrating job. I shot the video several times over many days and it always takes 20 tries to get it right. The light is not quite right, it crops weirdly, or some unforeseen mishap occurs. I finally had to purchase a heavy-duty overhead phone stand. That did the trick. I’m even mildly pleased with myself. Now when I’m drawing somewhere and people ask to see my sketchbook, I hand them this finished one instead. I keep it hidden in my knapsack. Their eyes bug out a little and they move away from me a bit so they don’t catch whatever neurosis I have. A bundle of snowdrops ⁕ These flowers started with watercolour in my sketchbook, where I played around with layering lots of details using Prismacolour coloured pencils and Caran D’Ache pastels. After I finished the sketchbook page, I wanted to do something more with them but wasn’t sure what, so I scanned them, brought them into Procreate, & cut out the 3 flowers I liked the most as well as all the little doodled bits and bobs in between. I moved them around until I liked the composition a... Which was a bit weird as I would normally be using it to hold the paper down or move it around, but eh you get the idea! Working on one of my loose sketchbook pages, using monotype print collage as a springboard to get me started and going from there. Using compressed and willow charcoal in this clip. I am attempting to make a small book of sketchbook pages including this one. It’s going good so far, quite excited although getting my head around how a 3mm printing ‘bleed’ works on a double page spread is so far a mystery….
