Planting bulbs in the fall is really the best gift to your future self! I wanted to put together a quick cheat sheet about planting depth- I always find myself needing to check this info! Planting your bulbs at the right depth is super important for good flowering. Another easy way to determine how to plant - plant at a depth of 2-3 times the bulb’s height. **Alliums come in so many varieties and sizes! Tiny bulbs that bloom with little flowers will be planted shallower (3-4”), while bigger varieties that bloom with hu

Farmer Gracy on Instagram: "🍂A rough guide to planting depths 🍂 Spring bulbs are different shapes and sizes. Typically, spring bulbs should be planted roughly 2-3 times as deep as the bulb measures from top to bottom. So, smaller bulbs are planted shallower than larger bulbs. Planting depth doesn’t have to be exact, so don’t worry about getting a ruler out! Bulb sizes can vary per variety. For example, large daffodil varieties grow from quite large bulbs. These should be planted a deeper than small daffodil varieties which naturally grow from smaller bulbs. Allium and Fritillaria varieties also vary greatly in size. Approx planting depths: 🌰 Tulip: 15-20cm 🌰 Daffodil (large): 15-20cm 🌰 Daffodil (small): 10-15cm 🌰 Crocus: 10-15cm 🌰 Dwarf Iris: 5-10cm 🌰 Ranunculus: 2-3cm 🌰 Anem

It’s like a whole miniature garden in a pot! They are layered according to their size. Large bulbs are planted deepest with the smallest bulbs on the upper layers. Misilla | Learn To Grow on Instagram: "👋🏽Happy Flower Friday!🌼 These layered bulbs I planted last fall bloomed in spring, and it’s that time of the year again! Remember to order your spring-flowering bulbs immediately so you can plant them at least a month before the soil freezes! If you plan on planting a lasagna garden, select taller varieties of tulips and daffodils, which will display better when planted deepest. Consider Darwin Hybrid tulips or Trumpet Daffodils. Lasagna planting (layering) creates a beautiful display of continuous spring blossoms by planting early, mid, and late-blooming varieties in layers. The bulbs are planted at proper depths, with the latest blooming at the bottom layer. This method originated in the Netherlands and was developed by Dutch bulb mavens or expe
Farmer Gracy on Instagram: "Plant a pot which flowers in succession like this! This container flowered from February to May, starting with dwarf Iris, followed by crocuses, hyacinths, muscari and tulips. We planted the bulbs in layers so that each variety could be at the correct depth. Smaller bulbs need to be planted shallower than larger bulbs. So we planted tulips and hyacinths in the lower layers and crocuses, iris and muscari in the upper layers. Always ensure there is at least 15cm of soil below the lowest planted layer so all those bulb roots have somewhere to grow and find moisture! If you fancy planting a layered pot (also known as a bulb lasagne) this autumn, you’ll find a huge range of spring bulbs available on our website now. Use code EM10 to save 10% on your order 🌷 . .
🌸 Hey Honeysuckle | 🌷Flowers | 🌼Cottage Garden |☀️Happiness on Instagram: "Bulb Lasagna is when you layer bulbs in one container!!! 🙌 I should have blooms from Feb to May (if it works!) 🌸🌼🌷 I started the soil at 7” below the rim of the container but make sure you read the packaging on your bulbs to see how deep they need to be planted. 🌷 As a general rule you want to plant them 2-3 times deeper than the size of the bulb. 🌱 After you water 💦 them once, there will be no need to water them again. Bulbs can rot easily. That’s also why you need good drainage. 💛 There are other bulbs you can put in your bulb lasagna. 🌼🌼🌼 Try alliums and hyacinths and then grape hyacinths on top. Have you ever planted bulb lasagna? 😊😊😊 #bulblasagna #bulbplanting #bulbsinpots #tulipsinpots #daffod

The supermarkets and garden centres are packed with spring bulbs at the moment - I’ve used tulips, daffodils and crocuses but hyacinths, muscari, alliums and irises are also great spring bulbs to plant like this now. You can plant them from now till November and I’ll be putting more bulbs direct in the garden as my summer plants finish. In the UK these pots will stay outside all winter - if a
