One lesson I learned in therapy is to stop logic-ing my way through pain. It's only once you allow yourself to do the work internally that you begin healing. Numbing or distracting yourself is a trauma response. It's a bandage on a gushing wound that needs tending to. Pretending that something doesn’t hurt you when it does is a trauma response. It's an adaptation you think will keep you safe.
