Basics
SIM card
The SIM card contains your phone number, service details, and phonebook/message memory. Your phone supports both 1.8 V and 3 V SIM cards.
Some legacy SIM cards may not function with your phone. You should consult with your mobile operator for a replacement SIM card. There may be fees for this service.
11
Basics
Storage card
Use the microSD card to store your photos, videos, and music. Youll find the microSD card already inserted in your phone.
1. Take the back cover off. See Back cover for details. 2. Push the storage card in to eject it from its slot. 3. Slide the storage card out.
12
Basics
Battery
Your phone uses a rechargeable battery. Please use only original batteries and accessories that came with your phone or replacements that we recommend. How long the battery can last before it needs recharging depends on how you use your phone. Among these are the phone features and accessories you use (for example, leaving your Bluetooth connection always on uses more power). Long phone calls and frequent web browsing use up much battery. Also, consider your location: poor signal strength from your mobile network and extreme temperature make the battery work harder.
1. Take the back cover off. See Back cover for details. 2. Lift the battery from the groove at the top of the battery compartment.
13
Basics
1. Plug the power adapter into the USB connector of your phone.
2. Plug in the power adapter to an electrical outlet to start charging the battery. As the battery is being charged, the notification LED shows a solid orange light. The light turns to solid green when the phone is fully charged. When you charge the battery while the phone is on, the charging battery icon ( ) is displayed in your phones status bar. After the battery has been fully charged, the charging battery icon turns to a full battery icon ( ).
As a safety precaution, the battery stops charging when it overheats.

Finger gestures
Tap When you want to type using the keyboard, select items onscreen such as application and settings icons, or press onscreen buttons, simply tap them with your finger. To open the available options for an item (for example, a contact or link in a web page), simply press and hold the item. To swipe or slide means to quickly drag your finger vertically or horizontally across the screen. Press and hold your finger with some pressure before you start to drag. While dragging, do not release your finger until you have reached the target position. Flicking the screen is similar to swiping, except that you need to swipe your finger in light, quicker strokes. This finger gesture is always in a vertical direction, such as when flicking the contacts or message list. For most screens, you can automatically change the screen orientation from portrait to landscape by turning the phone sideways. When entering text, you can turn the phone sideways to bring up a bigger keyboard. In some apps, like Gallery or the web browser, you can pinch the screen using two fingers (for example, thumb and index finger) to zoom in or zoom out when viewing a picture or a web page.

Setting up your phone for the first time
When you switch on your phone for the first time, youll be asked to set up your phone. You can choose your language, how you want to connect to the Internet, and whether you want your current location to be automatically detected. Some features that need to connect to the Internet such as location-based services and auto-sync of your online accounts may incur extra data fees from your mobile operator. Dont worry. You can enable or disable them in your phones settings as you go along later on. To find out how, see the Settings chapter.

Whats the difference between Facebook for Android and Facebook for HTC Sense?
Facebook for HTC Sense is not a standalone app. It is integrated in People, Friend Stream, Gallery, and Calendar to give you up-to-date information about your Facebook contacts (their status updates, shared links, and photos) in these apps. Facebook for Android is a standalone app. Use this app to do most of the things that you would do when youre using your computers web browser to access your Facebook account, such as adding a friend and sending Facebook messages. The two do not share the same login credentials. Signing in to Facebook for HTC Sense does not sign you in to the Facebook for Android app and vice versa. If you want to use the same Facebook account for both, youll have to sign in to both using the same login credentials.
If you have more than one Facebook account, you may sign in to the Facebook app using your second account, since the Facebook app does not share the same login credentials as Facebook for HTC Sense.

Depending on the type of update, the update may erase all your personal data and customized settings, and also remove any applications youve installed. Make sure that youve backed up the information and files you want to keep. When there is an update available, the Install system software update dialog box will appear onscreen. Select Install now and then tap OK. If youre in the middle of a call and theres an update available, youll receive an update notification. After you end the call, slide open the Notifications panel (see Opening the Notifications panel in the Getting started chapter). Then tap the update notification to download and install the software update. Wait for the update process to finish. When the update is finished, the phone will automatically reset.
205
Factory reset is not a step to be taken lightly. Itll permanently delete all your data and customized settings, and will remove any applications youve downloaded and installed. Be sure to back up any data and files you want to keep before you do a factory reset.
