After graduation, Tom had a storied career as a librarian, starting as science librarian at Earlham and later leading libraries at Berea College and the University of Wisconsin-Parkside. He finished his career at the Lilly Library, receiving several awards for his work in academic librarianship over nearly 40 years.

    bucolic farm in eastern
    pennsylvania.

    where many of his young quaker pals


    opted for hometown affiliations upon
    graduation from high school....

    they've got
    great
    libraries!
    .... tom's blood
    was stirred by the
    siren song of
    earlham college.
    like many young men and women of a
    bookish inclination, tom succumbed to
    the visionary zeal of earlham's library course-
    guru, evan farber. it was an era of may integrated
    days and social upheaval... bibliographic
    instruction!
