    San Fernando

    The First City of San Fernando


    San Fernando is also known as the First City of the Valley. It got the name the First City of the Valley because became the valleys first organized community in 1874. In the 1840s San Fernando experienced a brief gold rush in which gold nuggets were found. This caused people to settle there in order to get gold.

    History
    San Fernando was named after the Mission San Fernando Rey de Espaa San Fernando was part of the Mexican land grant of Rancho ExMission San Fernando. The founder of San Fernando bought 56,000 acres or 227 square kilometers from the

    Geography
    San Fernando is surrounded completely by Los Angeles. San Fernando has been going through a series of planning development projects. It is served by the San Diego freeway, Ronald Reagan freeway, Foothill, and Golden State freeway.

    Demographics
    The 2010 Census revealed that San Fernando had a population of 23,645. The population had 9,959.9 people in each square mile. The Census reported that 99.5% of the population of San Fernando lived in households.

    Economy
    According to San Fernandos 2009 Comprehensive Annual Financial Report, there are 20 top employers. The top three employers in San Fernando are LAUSD, PureTek, and JT Contractors. The first employer is Los Angeles Unified School District, which has 490 employees.

    Education
    San Fernando is served by LAUSD. PUC Schools operates some charter schools in San Fernando. A private school, The Concordia Schools San Fernando, is in the city.
