Todays youth face new and challenging issues that were not as prevalent in previous generations. Mental illness, obesity, and increasing violence are daily topics in the news and it is our responsibility to teach young people how to rise above these issues and become productive and engaged members of a community. In order to do this, we must create an environment where children feel safe, understood, and empowered. With this goal in mind Empowering Our Youth Ministry has devised a plan to create a spiritually based recreation facility in the heart of North Minneapolis. Our vision for this facility is to give youths the tools to live a healthy, productive, spiritually based life through the engagement of physical activities, healthy lifestyle education, theater and arts programs, employment and mentorship, and biblical support classes. We have identied a building prominently located on Broadway Avenue. This building would allow us to house activities that will engage the young people of this community as well as becoming a destination for youth and families of other communities within the Twin Cities. In bringing these young people together we begin to form a mutual respect for all people and things through our three step process: teaching, training and turnover. We teach the word of God. We create a structured environment where respect of others is key and out of respect comes learning and understanding. We demonstrate strong, positive leadership that builds condence in our youth so that they can pass on what they have received through this program to others in the community and beyond.
