Mathematics and Statistics The syndicate continues to be divided into four streamed maths groups. Our focus for Term 3 will be Multiplication and Division th and preparing for Nelson Mathix 14 August. For topic maths we will be working on geometry-shape identifying classes of 2D/3D shapes by geometrical properties; relating 3D models to 2D representations and in measurement looking at angles. Technology We will continue to catch a bus to Nelson Intermediate for Technology at 8:55 each Thursday. During I will be taking our senior students for BP Technology Challenge and will be looking for students to represent us at the interschool competition, which is to be th held on Wednesday the 18 September at Nelson College.
Science Mr Wiechern will take the students for Science during inter-change. The students will produce their own science fair project which they will also work on with Mr Wills on Wednesday mornings. Students will be given half a day on th Tuesday 10 September to add their finishing touches before they are due on Thursday 12 September ready for final th judging on Monday 16 September. The three syndicate finalists will attend the th Interschool Science Fair on Friday 27 Septemeber. Physical Education This term we will be focusing on team sports and fitness in preparation for and nd rd Winter Tournament 22 and 23 August (Week 5). There is no postponement date. Could you please either text me or write me a note if your child is unwell; failing that if there are no obvious signs for a child not to participate, then we do expect them to be involved. It is great to see correct sports uniforms being worn. College Visits This term is very busy for the Year 8s checking out their future colleges. In th week 2, on Tuesday 6 August 9:15-10:30 year 8 girls and boys will be visiting the Nelson colleges. Homestudy. Home-study this term will be optional. Students will opt in if they want to develop their independent study skills and prepare themselves the best they can for college. I am not going to chase anybody and homework will not be marked if handed in beyond the due date. It is however an expectation that students complete their spelling words each week and continue to learn and practise their timestables. I also expect students to read for at least 20 minutes every evening.
Winter Tournament Winter Tournament will take place on the 22nd and 23rd of August. The senior students of St Josephs host St Marys, Blenheim for the nights of Wednesday st nd 21 and Thursday 22 of August. Please could you seriously consider hosting one or two children. This will involve two nights accommodation and cut lunches for both days. Parents you are welcome to join us. We will leave school at 9:00 am. St Marys will arrive at approximately st 2:15 pm on Wednesday 21 August. On Thursday morning, we will leave school by bus, at 8:55 am to travel to Saxtons Field. Please ensure that billets take their gear on Friday morning to school because they will not be returning to St Josephs. You will be supplied with your billets contact details and any special requirements (e.g. food, allergies) prior to their arrival. Please indicate on the reply slip below, if you can assist. Thanks. Students attending Winter Tournament - will need to bring $10:00 ($5 participation fee and $5:00 for the bus) to your classroom teacher ASAP please. Those not attending Winter Tournament will come to school in school uniform and will be placed in another class for the two days.
Room 5 Buddies
Finally if you have any unwanted plastic bags or newspapers we would really appreciate you sending these into school. Thanks as always for your support.
