Hello there my dear students! Are you ready to start our lesson? In this topic you will know about the measurement we use in our daily life. This module, help you to understand what is the difference between mass and weight and other important things that you want to know about this topic , so lets proceed, now if you are ready !
LESSON 1: SI UNITS
INTERNATIONAL SYSTEM
International system is the modern form of the metric system and is the worlds most widely used system of measurement, used in both everyday commerce and science. It comprises a coherent system of units of measurement built around seven base unit, 22 named and an indeterminate number of unnamed coherent derived units, and a set of prefixes that act as decimal based multipliers.
SI UNITS
QUANTITY NAME OF BASE SI UNIT SYMBOL
LENGTH MASS TIME ELECTRIC CURRENT THERMODYNAMIC TEMPERATURE AMOUNT OF SUBSTANCE LUMINOUS INTENSITY
m Kg s A K mol cd
Write TRUE if the statement is correct and if FALSE change the underlined word to the correct answer .
1. Metric system is the worlds most widely used system of measurement. 2. The international system is used in scientific work and in everyday measurement in many parts of the world . 3. Small letter m is the correct symbol for mass. 4. There are 22 named and an indeterminate number of unnamed science derived units. 5. The correct unit of electic current is ampere. II. Matching type : match the quantity with their name of base si unit. A. 1. Luminous intensity 2. Time 3. Amount of substance 4. Length 5. Thermodynamic Temperature B. a. second b. kelvin c. candela d. mol e. meter
measure the length ,width or height of the objects . * A thermometer is used to measure temperature. Thermometers make use of either mercury or alcohol. Both substances are very sensitive that they rises or fall when there is a change in temperature . I. 1. 2. 3. 4. 5. Arrange the jumble letter to answer the following:
Used for measuing mass. O T F L A P M R N A A B L E C Used to measure length of small objects. N V R E E R I L R C A E P L Used to measure volume of liquid. U G R D A A D E N T N C R Y E I L D Used to measure temperature. R T E H T E E R M M O Used to measure smaller volumes of liquid. T P I S E P and G S I N Y E S R II. Draw the following measuring tools .
Ooppsss ! sorry students , I forgot to tell that before you proceed to our lesson, you need to answer the following question below. THANK YOU AND GOOD LUCK !
PRE-TEST :
MULTIPLE CHOICE : Choose the correct answer to the following question.
1. ________ is anything that has mass and volume a. weight a. mass b. mass b. weight c. earth c. air 2.This is the measure of the gravitayional pull of an object.
3. Which is not true asbout uses of science measurement ? a. science uses measurement to quantify industry . b. measurement consist of number and unit. c. used for scientific purposes. 4. It refers to the certain digits and the estimated digit of a measurement. a.Scientific notation b. dimensional analysis c. significant figure 5.Refers to the nearness of measurement to a reference value or standard value. a.Accuracy b.precision c. scientific notation IDENTIFICATION : Identify what each of the following scenarios describe. Write A, if it describes accuracy ; B, if precision; and C if both accuracy and precision . ________ 1. At a birthday party , many blindfolded teens pinned the tail
of the donkey on its nose instead of on its rear . ________2.Two carpenters were measuring the length of a 12.5 by 10 Rectangular room. One carpenter measured the length to be 12 ft and 6.5 in. the other carpenter measured it to be 12 Ft and 5 in. ________3.Cellphones have built in locator systems that are able to indicate their location within a radius of about five km. ________4.A chemist determined that the dissolved oxygen level of the fishpond water Dropped to about 1.5 mg/L at 3:00 am. The dissolved oxygen was actually 1.8 mg/L. ________5.A student recorded the following temperature as the boiling point of water :80, 81, 80 and 82 degree celsius . (hint : what is the boiling point of water ?)
III. Give the correct number of significant figures in each. 1.75 2.0.75 3.480 4.9 500 5.0.9500 6.0.00376 7. 4.004.00 8. 400 400 9. 0.04050 10. 76243
