Day # - __4__
Life Skills
3.
Application of Skills 2. TSW incorporate the skills of volleyball learned in a previous lesson and practiced in the first activity to the volleyball game, while continuing to enhance them.
Communication TSW communicate with each other so that no one runs into somebody when two people are going after the ball. Fair Play
10. Leadership 11. Teamwork TSW work together in Dead Fish and the overall game, following proper volleyball etiquette, in hopes of never letting the ball hit the ground on their side.
Introduction / Warm-up Total time: 5 minutes Partner Tag: Each student will have a partner. When their partner tags them they must perform 5 Proper sit ups and then they may begin trying to tag Them. Repeat process for 5 minutes. Transition - from warm-up Learning Activities / Teaching Strategies Total time: 30 minutes Activity 1 (5 minutes) Serving warm-up: students will practice serving with a partner across the net, starting closer and increasing distance as their arms warm up.
Formations / Cues Students will be spread out across gym, trying to stay away from their partner
Assessment Note that students (June) are doing a full sit up, elbows touching their knees when performing one. (IEP goal 1)
Formations / Cues Students will be in groups of 2, one on each side of the net.
Assessment Students will be able to assess themselves by seeing where their serves landed and fixing their technique accordingly.
Review with cues: bow and arrow, toss high with opposite hand, step, and swing through.
Transition - from activity 1 Stay on court you are on, everyone on your side of the net will become your team for next activity -Activity 2 (10 minutes) Dead fish serving game: students will serve from each baseline across the net. If the serve does not land in the court, the student will sit on the other side of the net and become a dead fish. They may not move. Before heading to the other side, the student must do three pushups. Players from their team will try to serve to the dead fish. If they catch a serve, before it hits the ground they may join the rest of the team and begin serving again. Object is to keep your players serving. June may serve from a shorter distance, increasing her likelihood of getting her serve over the net. June will only perform 2 proper pushups if a serve is missed. (IEP goal 2) Formations / Cues Students will be split up into groups according to previous activity on each side of the net. Assessment The students will be assessed by the outcome of their serves during play.
Transition - from activity 2 Stay in teams already formed, go into next activity -Activity 3 (15 minutes) Game of volleyball: The students will participate in a game of volleyball by using passing and setting skills worked on in a previous lesson, and serving skills worked on today. Formations / Cues Students will be split in same teams as previous activity. Review rotating spots after points scored, making sure each student gets an opportunity at each spot. Formations / Cues Students will put volleyball away and report to end line. 1. If a ball is hit high to you, should you pass or set? 2. If a ball is hit lower to you, should you pass or set? 3. Can you name some tips to remember that will help you serve accurately. Assessment The students will be assessed through game activity by observation, making sure proper skills are being used. Assessment
Closure / Cool-down See closing questions under assessment. Total time: 5 minutes
Equipment needs: Volleyballs, Volleyball Net Safety Considerations: Partner tag: be careful not to run over someone performing sit ups on the ground Dead Fish/serving warm up: be aware of balls hit by other classmates, do not hit the ball at someone who is not paying attention. ** Stop all activity if a ball rolls onto your court that came from another court- no rolled ankles from tripping over a ball. When doing performing pushups on the ground- move to the side where no activity is taking place (June) Activity Formations
Modifications for special populations/ Differentiated Instruction Describe here how you will modify or adapted your instruction based on the various learning needs of your student. Throughout the lesson June will be enhancing her core and upper body strength. Each activity is meant for fun but also works these specific areas. A key part of the lesson is that all students will be taking part in these core and upper body strengthening activities, not just June. It is important for her to not feel this lesson is directed at enhancing her abilities. If doing three push-ups becomes hard for June, she may only do two. Her upper body should be fairly exhausted after this lesson due to the serving game, pushups, and the full game of volleyball.
Instructor (P)Reflection:
1. As I reflect on the lesson, to what extent were students/clients productively engaged? (Brief description of how they were or were not productively engaged.) As I visualize my lesson, I imagine my students were be productively engaged 100 percent of the time. I believe this because weather they succeed in an activity or not, they will still be active. For example: in the dead fish game, if they succeed in serving, they will continue to serve. However, if they miss a serve they will perform a few pushups and then return to the other side of the net until they catch a teammates serve. Also, at the end of the lesson the students will all be engaged in an actual game of volleyball, working on all the skills previously learned and working together in hopes to maintain a successful game. June is included in every activity and should be able to perform each task with few modifications.
