Beowulf is an epic poem about a Geatish hero who comes to the aid of King Hrothgar of the Danes by defeating the monster Grendel and later Grendel's mother. Beowulf then returns home and later becomes king of the Geats. In his later years, a dragon begins terrorizing his kingdom and Beowulf slays the dragon but dies in the battle, ending his reign as a great hero.
