ROCK MUSIC IN UNITED KINGDOM
United Kingdom as a country of origin of rock and its subgenres punk and metal is a home of many great musicians. We all have heard of The Beatles, probably the most famous band in the world, and since I'm a big fan of them and also many other bands and artists I decided to tell you more about the most important British rock music and its subgenres. It all started in the eartly 1960s when The Beatles has grown popullarity in the United Kingdom and also in the United States. After them bands such as The Rolling Stones and The Who followed their example and they all become extremely successful throughout the world. That phenomen is also known as British Invasion. That also influenced fashion, haircuts and manners so UK became cultural and fashion centre of the world. Right after that genre of psychedelic rock become popular. The main characteristic of psychedelic artists is using of hallucinogenic drugs. Since many bands who played psychedelic rock also play progressive rock that two terms become synonyms. The most important psychedelic bands are Pink Floyd, The Cream and The Yardbirds. Second important British-made subgenre is Heavy metal. Most important characteristics of heavy metal are loudness, strong rhythm and powerful guitar riffs. The three pioneering heavy metal bands, Led Zeppelin, Black Sabbath, and Deep Purple, were made in the early 1970s and they all were British. After them, in early 1980s bands such as Iron Maiden and Def Leppard lead the New Wave of British Heavy Metal. Although it's a fact that American band The Ramones are the first punk rock band, British scene was most powerful and produced worldwide popular bands such as The Clash and Sex Pistols. Punk is marked as a genre of anarchy because most lyrics of punk songs share anarchistic ideas. There were also many other genres, but this essay is too short to describe them all. I really can say that I'm the big fan of rock music made in the UK, and some of the mentioned bands will always be popular. But they really deserve that.
