A Haiku is. A traditional form of Japanese poetry HAIKU Haiku poems consist of 3 lines. The first and last lines have 5 syllables The middle line has 7 syllables. The lines rarely rhyme.
What is a Syllable? A syllable is a part of a word pronounced as a unit. It is usually made up of a vowel alone or a vowel with one or more consonants. The word "Haiku" has two syllables: Hai-ku

HAIKU Since the Haiku poet only has 3 lines to work with, Haiku poems are usually written about one simple thing. Examples: An animal A color A snowflake A raindrop Example! A Haiku about winter. cold winter weather zero below temperature frosty the snowman Another Example Haiku about the beach: Sand scatters the beach Waves crash on the sandy shore Blue water shimmers In Fact! Haikus can even act like riddles! What Am I? Haiku On the next slides, we will read off a series of Haikus that are describing animals Read the Haikus and write down a guess for what animal you think the Haiku is describing! What Am I?
