PT Medco E&P Indonesia consistently strives
to realize its vision and mission statements
as well as its corporate core values as a form
of accountability to all stakeholders, ensuring
that its operational activities can be of benefit
to the various stakeholders.
In the interest of sustainable growth,
PT Medco E&P Indonesia engages an
operational strategy that seeks to optimize
exploration and production activities, and to
improve operational integrity and work
efficiency. In addition, the Company also
strives to increase the production level on
its existing production fields, while continuing
to seek operating contracts on new
exploration blocks with good prospects.
To increase the production of oil and gas,
the Company adopts a number of Enhanced
Oil Recovery (EOR) techniques particularly
on the more mature fields. Meanwhile, new
field development projects are focused on
the construction of production facilities,
including at the Senoro-Toili Block, Lematang
Block and the A Block.
Following the discovery Coal Bed Methane
(CBM) prospects, PT Medco E&P Indonesia
has also obtained a license for the
development of a CBM project. The project
will supply energy for domestic industrial
users in Indonesia, as well as contribute to
the development of alternative energy sources
for the future.
PT Medco E&P Indonesia secara konsisten
terus mewujudkan visi, misi, dan tata nilai
perusahaan sebagai bentuk tanggung jawab
agar dalam pengelolaan operasi kerja dapat
memberi manfaat bagi seluruh pemangku
kepentingan.
Dalam rangka mencapai pertumbuhan yang
berkesinambungan, PT Medco E&P Indonesia
menerapkan strategi di bidang operasi
melalui optimalisasi kegiatan eksplorasi dan
produksi, peningkatan integritas operasi,
dan efisiensi kerja. Selain itu, Perusahaan
juga senantiasa meningkatkan jumlah
produksi dari lapangan-lapangan yang ada,
serta terus berusaha mendapatkan kontrak
pengelolaan atas blok-blok baru yang
memiliki prospek baik.
Untuk meningkatkan perolehan minyak dan
gas bumi, Perusahaan menerapkan teknologi
Enhanced Oil Recovery (EOR) pada mature
field. Sementara untuk pengembangan
proyek-proyek baru difokuskan pada
pembangunan fasilitas produksi, terutama di
Blok Senoro-Toili, Blok Lematang dan Blok A.
Dalam kaitannya dengan kebutuhan energi
bagi industri di Indonesia, PT Medco E&P
Indonesia telah mendapat izin
pengembangan gas metana batu bara atau
Coal Bed Methane (CBM). Hal ini merupakan
kelanjutan dari penemuan kandungan CBM
yang diharapkan dapat memberikan
kontribusi bagi pengembangan energi
alternatif di masa mendatang.

Brief History

PT Meta Epsi Drilling, kemudian berubah
nama menjadi PT Medco Energi
Internasional, Tbk. melakukan ekspansi
usaha di bidang eksplorasi dan produksi
minyak dan gas bumi dengan mengambil
alih wilayah kerja Tesoro (TIPCO dan TTPC)
di Kalimantan Timur. Selanjutnya, PT
Etaksatria Petrasanga dan PT Eksita
Patranagari didirikan untuk mengelola
wilayah kerja tersebut, yang kemudian
digabungkan menjadi PT Exspan Kalimantan.
PT Medco Energi Internasional, Tbk.
mengambil alih seluruh saham PT Stanvac
Indonesia (PT SI), perusahaan yang beroperasi
di wilayah Sumatera Selatan dan Riau yang
dimiliki bersama oleh Exxon Corporation dan
Mobil Oil Incorporated. Selanjutnya, PT SI
berubah nama menjadi PT Exspan Sumatera.
PT Meta Epsi Drilling, which was later to
become PT Medco Energi Internasional Tbk,
expanded its business activities in oil and
gas exploration and production through the
acquisition of the working areas of Tesoro
(TIPCO and TTPC) in East Kalimantan. These
working areas were managed under two
newly established companies, PT Etaksatria
Petrasanga and PT Eksita Patranagari, which
were later merged to become PT Exspan
Kalimantan.
PT Medco Energi Internasional Tbk acquired
the entire shareholding of PT Stanvac
Indonesia (PT SI), an oil and gas company
operating in South Sumatra and Riau and
jointly owned by Exxon Corporation and
Mobil Oil Incorporated. PT SI was
subsequently renamed PT Exspan Sumatera.

PT Exspan Nusantara secured gas sales
contracts to supply several power plants in
South Sumatra and East Kalimantan in
support of the national energy policy.

reserves in the Kaji-Semoga Field, Rimau

Commitment to the domestic market
continued through the construction of a
pipeline in East Kalimantan to supply natural
gas to the methanol plant at Pulau Bunyu
and power stations in Kutai Kartanegara
Regency.

2005
PT Medco E&P Indonesia continued to
monetize its gas reserves by procuring a
number of gas sales and purchase
agreements with industrial customers in
West Java, South Sumatra, East Kalimantan,
and Central Sulawesi, while also helping to
lessen the electricity crisis in South Sumatra
and East Kalimantan.
Initial production crude from the Tiaka Field
at Senoro-Toili Block, also marking the first
production of crude oil in Sulawesi.
PT Medco E&P Indonesia terus memonetisasi
cadangan gas yang dimiliki dengan
melakukan berbagai perjanjian jual-beli gas
bagi industri di Jawa Barat, Sumatera Selatan,
Kalimantan Timur, dan Sulawesi Tengah,
serta membantu krisis energi kelistrikan di
Sumatera Selatan dan Kalimantan Timur.
Lapangan Tiaka di Blok Senoro-Toili
menghasilkan produksi minyak perdana,
sekaligus menjadi produksi minyak pertama
di daerah Sulawesi.

Consistency in the implementation of good
corporate governance practices resulted in
the recognition, through its holding company
PT Medco Energi Internasional Tbk, of the
Trusted Company 2006 award.
PT Medco E&P Indonesia was entrusted as
co-operator to manage the A Block in Aceh.
Konsisten mengimplementasikan praktik-
praktik tata kelola perusahaan yang baik
sehingga membuahkan prestasi sebagai
Perusahaan Terpercaya 2006 melalui induk
Perusahaan, PT Medco Energi Internasional,
Tbk.
PT Medco E&P Indonesia mendapat
kepercayaan untuk turut mengelola Blok A

On 19 April 2004, PT Exspan Nusantara
changed its name to PT Medco E&P
Indonesia in support of the strategy of its
holding company, PT Medco Energi
Internasional Tbk, to become a leading
energy company.
PT Medco E&P Indonesia supplied natural
gas to the LPG plant of PT Musi Banyuasin
Energi in South Sumatra.
Pada tanggal 19 April 2004, PT Exspan
Nusantara berubah nama menjadi PT Medco
E&P Indonesia, selaras dengan strategi induk
perusahaan, PT Medco Energi Internasional
Tbk, untuk menjadi perusahaan penyedia
energi terdepan.
PT Medco E&P Indonesia memasok gas
untuk instalasi LPG milik PT Musi Banyuasin
Energi di Sumatera Selatan.

of PT Medco Energi Internasional,
Tbk., manages working areas in
13 blocks located in 10 provinces and
22 regencies in Indonesia, extending
from Aceh to Central Sulawesi.
Currently, PT Medco E&P Indonesia
has positioned itself as a domestic
private oil and gas company at par
with international production sharing
contractors operating in Indonesia.
PT Medco E&P Indonesia merupakan
anak perusahaan PT Medco Energi

PT Medco E&P Indonesia conducts its
operational activities based on short- and
long-term strategies, which emphasize on
the replacement and addition of oil and gas
reserves through explorations and
acquisitions; increased production volumes;
development of new markets for gas;
strategic alliances; and improving the
efficiency of its resources.
During 2007 and 2008, PT Medco E&P
Indonesia has also completed seismic survey
works comprising 3D seismic survey of 270
sq km at the Rimau Block, as well as 3D
seismic survey of 356 sq km and 2D seismic
survey of 1,020 km at the South & Central
Sumatra Block. By year-end 2009, the
Company has plans to conduct further seismic
works comprising 2D seismic survey of 384
km at Rimau Block, and 3D seismic surveys
of 277 sq km at the South & Central Sumatra
Block, 300 sq km at Merangin-1 Block, and
300 sq km at Kampar Block.

To optimize oil production from the Kaji-
Semoga Field at Rimau Block, PT Medco
E&P Indonesia utilizes advanced technologies
such as Pattern Re-Alignment Waterflood
Optimization, Enhanced Oil Recovery (EOR),
and Artificial Lift Optimization.
At the Rimau Block, the South & Central
Sumatra Block and the Tarakan Block, PT
Medco E&P Indonesia also employs a range
of production optimization methods including
fracturing (stimulation), horizontal drilling,
huff and puff EOR, radial jetting, by-pass oil
surveillance, and artificial lift optimization.
PT Medco E&P Indonesia also continues to
monetize its available gas reserves in
Indonesia by supplying the needs of domestic
industries, including fertilizer plants,
petrochemical plants, power plants, and LPG
plants.

Dalam rangka mengoptimalisasi perolehan
minyak di Lapangan Kaji-Semoga, Blok
Rimau, PT Medco E&P Indonesia
menggunakan Pattern Re-Alignment
Waterflood Optimization, EOR, dan Artificial
Lift Optimization.
Upaya optimasi lainnya juga dilakukan di
Blok Rimau, Blok South & Central Sumatra,
dan Blok Tarakan yaitu menggunakan
fracturing (stimulation), horizontal drilling,
huff dan puff EOR, radial jetting, by pass oil
surveillance, serta artificial lift optimization.
Sebagai perusahaan yang memiliki beberapa
lapangan gas di Indonesia, PT Medco E&P
Indonesia terus berupaya memonetisasi
cadangan-cadangan gas yang ada untuk
memasok kebutuhan industri domestik,
seperti industri pupuk, petrokimia,
pembangkit listrik, dan LPG.

Since the discovery of gas at Senoro Field,
Senoro-Toili Block, in 1999, PT Medco E&P
Indonesia has drilled five wells to assess the
gas reserves at the location. Production
capacity of the Senoro Field is estimated at
250 MMscfd for 15 years. In 2009, the
Company conducted two assessment drilling
projects at Senoro-6 and Cendana Pura-1.
PT Medco E&P Indonesia and PT Pertamina
(Persero) hold joint participating and
operating interest in the project to monetize
gas reserves through the construction of a
medium-size LNG plant at Donggi-Senoro.
Presently, PT Medco E&P Indonesia has
completed a natural gas processing plant at
Singa Field , Lematang Block. The facility is
capable of processing 85 MMscfd of natural
gas with 38% CO2 content and 250 ppm of
H2S. Some 50 MMscfd of this will be delivered
through a pipeline from South Sumatra to
West Java to supply the domestic gas market
in Java.
PT Medco E&P Indonesia is currently
concluding an extension of production
sharing contract at Blok A, Nanggroe Aceh
Darussalam, while continuing various
preparations for the development of gas
resources fields for a projected gas production
in early 2013. According to plan, production
of gas from this block will be delivered to
meet gas requirements for Pupuk Iskandar
Muda, a fertilizer plant, in North of Aceh
and PLN, a national power and electric
company, in East of Aceh.
There are three gas resources fields that are
under development phase at Blok A, namely
Alur Siwah, Alur Rambong and Julu Reyeu
fields, with expected production of 60-125
BBTUPD by 2013.

Sejak ditemukan pada tahun 1999, di
Lapangan gas Senoro di Blok Senoro-Toili,
telah dilakukan pengeboran 5 sumur untuk
membuktikan adanya cadangan gas.
Lapangan Senoro diperkirakan mampu
menghasilkan 250 MMscfd gas selama 15
tahun. Pada tahun 2009, PT Medco E&P
Indonesia melakukan pembuktian dengan
mengebor Senoro-6 dan Cendana Pura-1.
Selain itu, PT Medco E&P Indonesia dan PT
Pertamina (Persero) merupakan pemegang
dan operator proses
monetisasi cadangan gas dalam membangun
kilang berukuran sedang LNG Donggi-Senoro.
Saat ini, PT Medco E&P Indonesia sudah
menyelesaikan fasilitas pabrik pengolahan
gas di Lapangan Singa, Blok Lematang. Pabrik
tersebut mampu memproses 85 MMscfd
dengan kandungan CO2 sebesar 38% dan
H2S sebanyak 250 ppm. Sebanyak 50 MMscfd
akan disalurkan melalui pipanisasi dari
Sumatera Selatan ke Jawa Barat untuk
memenuhi kebutuhan pasokan gas domestik
di Pulau Jawa.
Pada saat ini PT Medco E&P Indonesia sedang
menyelesaikan perpanjangan kontrak kerja
sama di Blok A, Aceh, serta melakukan
berbagai persiapan pengembangan lapangan
gas Blok A untuk memulai produksi gas pada
awal tahun 2013. Sesuai dengan rencana,
kebutuhan gas pabrik Pupuk Iskandar Muda
di Aceh Utara dan Perusahaan Listrik Negara
(PLN) di Aceh Timur.
Ada tiga lapangan gas di Blok A yang akan
dikembangkan, yaitu Alur Siwah, Alur
Rambong, dan Julu Reyeu, dengan produksi
sebesar 60 hingga 125 BBTUPD gas di tahun
2013.

lingkungan di sekitar wilayah operasi Perusahaan.

with a priority on occupational health and safety,
as well as the preservation of the natural
environment in its working areas.
Di bidang kesehatan dan keselamatan kerja,
Perusahaan menjalankan program
pengawasan terhadap penyakit akibat kerja,
serta kebersihan industri untuk
mengantisipasi, mengenal, mengevaluasi,
dan mengontrol kondisi lingkungan kerja
yang dapat mempengaruhi tenaga kerja. Hal
ini dilakukan untuk melindungi karyawan
dari efek akibat pekerjaan dan menjaga
kebersihan lingkungan agar karyawan dapat
bekerja dengan nyaman dan aman.
Di bidang lingkungan, Perusahaan
menjalankan program pengelolaan
lingkungan hidup yang meliputi pelaksanaan
dan sertifikasi ISO 14001, studi lingkungan,
program pengurangan emisi gas buang, nihil
air buangan, Integrated Waste Treatment
Centre, program konservasi energi,
pemantauan lingkungan, bioremediasi, dan
revegetasi. Atas konsistensinya dalam
mengelola lingkungan, Perusahaan meraih
Peringkat Kinerja Perusahaan Dalam
Pengelolaan Lingkungan (PROPER) Biru
berturut-turut sejak tahun 2003 dari
Kementerian Negara Lingkungan Hidup
(KLH). Pada tahun 2009, KLH
menganugerahkan PROPER Hijau bagi
Rimau Asset, serta pada tahun 2010,
Gubernur Kalimantan Timur
menganugerahkan PROPERDA Hijau untuk
Blok Sembakung.
Bersamaan dengan diintegrasikannya Safety,
Health, Environment, Quality (SHEQ),
PT Medco E&P Indonesia menggunakan
perangkat International Safety Rating System
ke-7 (isrs7). Dengan demikian, Perusahaan
dapat mengevaluasi dan mengawasi risiko
serta memberikan panduan untuk
peningkatan kinerja bisnis perusahaan secara
berkesinambungan.

In terms of occupational health and safety,
the Company implements a variety of programs
to monitor work-induced illness as well as
industrial hygiene aspects in order to anticipate,
identify, evaluate and mitigate working
conditions that could affect the well-being of
workers. The Company strives to protect its
employees from work-related adverse effects
and to keep a clean working environment that
enables employees to work in comfort and
safety.
In terms of environment preservation, the
Company engages in a number of enviromental
management initiatives including ISO 14001
implementation and certification, environmental
studies, emission reduction program, zero
discharge of waste water, integrated waste
treatment center, energy conservation programs,
environmental monitoring, bioremediation, and
reforestation program. For three last consecutive
period of evaluations, the Company has
successfully achieved Blue category for
Company Performance in Environmental
Management (PROPER). This classification is
an appraisal conducted by the Ministry of
Environment for company efforts in
environmental management. In 2009, the
Company achieved Green category for Rimau
Asset in South Sumatera region, and recently
in 2010 Sembakung Block achieved Green
category from Governor of East Kalimantan.
As part of efforts toward an integrated Safety,
Health, Environment & Quality (SHEQ)
management, PT Medco E&P Indonesia has
adopted the International Safety Rating System
version-7 (isrs7). In turn, this provides the
Company with better risk evaluation and
monitoring capabilities as well as guidelines
to effect sustainable and continuous
performance improvement.
PT Medco E&P Indonesia is also active in
global warming prevention activities through
its flared gas reduction initiatives. The
Company engaged in MedcoEnergi
Associated Gas Recovery and Utilization
Project at Kaji Field, Rimau Block, which is
intended as a Clean Development Mechanism
(CDM) project. The project involves the
capture of associated gases and subsequent
processing into LPG in a small refinery plant.
The CDM project has been approved by the
CDM National Committee in Indonesia and
is currently undergoing validation by the
Designated Operational Entity prior to
registration at the CDM Executive Board.
This project represents a direct contribution
by the Company to reduce the effect of global
warming, while underlining its continuing
commitment to occupational health, safety
and environment issues.
PT Medco E&P Indonesia juga berperan aktif
dalam mengurangi efek pemanasan global
melalui program reduksi . Salah
satunya melalui MedcoEnergi Associated Gas
Recovery and Utilization Project di Lapangan
Kaji, Blok Rimau yang telah diajukan sebagai
proyek Mekanisme Pembangunan Bersih
(MPB). Proyek ini meliputi pengambilan gas
ikutan dan memprosesnya dalam kilang mini
menjadi LPG.
Proyek MPB tersebut telah memperoleh
persetujuan dari Komisi Nasional MPB
di Indonesia dan saat ini dalam proses
validasi oleh Designated Operational Entity
untuk selanjutnya didaftarkan ke Dewan
Eksekutif MPB.
Keberlangsungan proyek ini merupakan salah
satu kontribusi positif Perusahaan untuk
mengurangi efek pemanasan global serta
bukti komitmen Perusahaan terhadap
kesehatan dan keselamatan kerja serta lindung
lingkungan.

To achieve its corporate goals and objectives
amidst more intense competition, PT Medco

Since 2005, PT Medco E&P Indonesia

The Company's Community Development
initiatives are focused on five areas, namely
economic welfare, education and culture,
healthcare, public and social facilities, and
the natural environment. The programs use
a community-based development approach
that promotes both increased welfare as
well as self-sufficiency in the communities.
Using a systematic, structured and integrated
approach, a variety of programs have been
formulated with an emphasis on capacity
building and institutional building to provide
communities with access to improve their
social and economic welfare as well as better
life quality. The implementation of these
programs involves processes of planning,
organizing, execution, accountability and
evaluation.
A basic principle of these Community
Development programs is the active and
direct participation by community members
as program beneficiary, and the emphasis
of building community self-sufficiency along
the so-called concept of 'providing a hook
instead of giving a fish'. In addition, the
program seeks for effective utilization of
local and natural resources in the respective
areas.
The success of its continuing Community
Development programs has earned a variety
of accolades for PT Medco E&P Indonesia,
including the PADMA Award in 2003 and
again in 2007, and the Social Empowerment
Award in 2007 from the Government of
Indonesia. PT Medco E&P Indonesia achieved
MDGs Award 2009 in gender equality for its
success to develop the community, particularly
women, to nurture and foster Organic SRI
Rice in around our working areas.

mengembangkan sikap peduli terhadap
permasalahan yang terjadi di sekitar wilayah
operasinya yang terangkum dalam program
pengembangan masyarakat (Community
Development).
As a socially responsible corporate citizen,
PT Medco E&P Indonesia has a genuine
concern to be part of the solution for
community welfare issues around its
operational areas, and has accordingly
developed and implemented its own
Community Development program.
Melalui lima fokus program yakni ekonomi,
pendidikan dan kebudayaan, kesehatan,
fasilitas sosial dan fasilitas umum, serta
lingkungan, pendekatan program
pengembangan masyarakat diarahkan pada
pelaksanaan pembangunan berbasis
masyarakat, sehingga dapat meningkatkan
kesejahteraan sekaligus mendorong
kemandirian.
Program disusun secara sistematis, terencana,
terpadu, serta bermuatan dan
untuk memperkuat
akses masyarakat dalam mencapai kondisi
sosial, ekonomi, dan kualitas hidup yang
lebih baik. Pelaksanaannya diterapkan
melalui proses perencanaan, organisasi,
pelaksanaan, akuntabilitas, dan evaluasi.
Prinsip kegiatan pengembangan masyarakat
adalah melibatkan masyarakat secara aktif
dan langsung, serta mengembangkan
kemandirian dengan konsep memberi kail,
bukan ikan. Di samping itu, membantu
mereka secara efektif dan tulus sesuai
dengan fokus sumber daya alam dan
lingkungan.
Sebagai wujud keberhasilan pelaksanaan
program-program pengembangan
masyarakat yang dilakukan secara
berkesinambungan, PT Medco E&P Indonesia
menerima penghargaan PADMA Award di
tahun 2003 dan 2007, serta Social
Empowerment Award di tahun 2007 dari
Pemerintah Indonesia. MDGs Award 2009
di bidang kesetaraan gender yang merupakan
sebuah penghargaan berkat keberhasilan
PT Medco E&P Indonesia memberdayakan
masyarakat khususnya kaum perempuan
dalam pengembangan padi SRI Organik di
sekitar wilayah operasi kerja perusahaan.
