SI MALAKAS,

SI MAGANDA, AT
ANG PAGDAMI NG
TAO
Legend has it that the first Filipino man and
woman were born from a bamboo stalk.
They both had brown skin and supple
bodies. The man was named Malakas, or
"Strong One"; the woman, Maganda, or the
"Beautiful One." Two traits which make the
Filipino unique among its Asian neighbors --
their strength and resiliency despite a lot of
adversity and trials which come their way;
and their beauty which is reflected in their
surroundings.
 Like many other countries, the
Philippines also has its own versions of
how the world was created.

 Itgives the readers a glimpse of how

early Filipinos view their origin.
 Though Philippine mythology may not be as
widely known as its European and East Asian
counterparts, it contains similar elements
such as their belief in deities, creation stories
and mythical creatures.

 This is a very popular folk tale in the country

and has varied details in different provinces
all over the Philipines.
