Research question- What does the Relay for Life and the American Cancer Society does for
cancer patients
Working thesis question- It raises money to help find the cure for cancer patients
Refined thesis statement- The American Cancer Society and Relay for Life help cancer patients
by having fund raisers that help raise money to help find the cure for cancer patients.

In the article, Learn about relay for life it was stated that communities from all over the
globe come together to honor cancer survivors, as well as lost loved ones. Also it recognizes the
fight back against the disease that already has taken to many lives. The article also tells that each
relay for life is special to its community. But the commitment of thousands of participants,
volunteers, and supporters to help is where the true power lies. The relay for life raises more the
400 million a year for the American cancer society and they put the donations to work. It says
that they invest in ground breaking research in every type of cancer and providing free info and
services to cancer patients. In the article it explains that They fight for every birthday threatened

by every cancer. There are many ways to become involved in these events. Even for your
canine companions. This article helps me because it helps the research recognize what
commitment communities have for their family and loved ones with the disease and what they do
in order to fight the cancer.

The article read, was What is relay? it explains the events and what they stand for. For
instance the survivors lap is when all cancer survivors at the event take a lap around the track to
celebrate the victory against fighting cancer. There also is a event called The fight back
ceremony it is highly emotional and it helps inspire relay participants to join in on the action. It
symbolizes the commitment to fight against cancer. It represents what the participants are willing
to do for their family, friends, and their selfs. Relay for life started in 1985 with a person called
Dr. Gordy Klatt. He ran for 24 hours around a track in Tacoma, Washington, he raised 27,000 to
the help the American cancer society to help fight the nations biggest health concern, cancer.
This article will help me to understand what events will happen and what they stand for.
