Favorite Colleges
Many people have their favorite job or activity, but what about their favorite university or
college. Well I happen to have three of them that I would love to attend, but a couple of them are
just a dream another could become a reality. Two colleges are located where there is family
nearby, two of them are also home to my two favorite college football teams, and one is a great
school for engineering, which is what I want to major in college. The three universities are,
starting with my favorite, The Ohio State University, The University of Alabama, and finally
The University of Louisville.
The Ohio State University is home to many great majors, athletics, and atmosphere. The
Ohio State University is located in the heart of the state, in the city of Columbus, Ohio. The
university is home to over 100 different majors and has a total enrollment of over 60,000
students, about 50,000 of those being undergraduate students {Welcome The Ohio State
University}. The campus itself is over 1,700 acres and contains exactly 451 buildings. Some of
which house some of the 18 mens or 19 womens sports that they have on campus. Besides just
having great athletics OSU is ranked highly among public universities and also as a brand itself
{Welcome The Ohio State University}. We know what The Ohio State University is like
today, but what it was like when it first started.

The Ohio State University was established in 1870, as a small land-grant university with
help from the Morrill Act of 1862. It had another name before it became what it is today and
started out with only 24 students three years after it was opened. The first class of six men
graduated from the school 5 years later then the following year a woman graduated. The
permanent name change came in 1878, to its now-familiar one with The being included. The
school began expanded throughout the later years as well as accepted graduate students in the
1880s. Now it is one of the nations top all-around universities to attend for whatever you would
choose to major in.
My second favorite school has to be the University of Alabama located down in the
former capital of the state, Tuscaloosa. The university this year has reached a record high of over
36,000 undergrad students in the fall {The University of Alabama}. The crimson tide freshman
class of 6,856 students is the greatest number and the best qualified in the universitys history
{The University of Alabama}. Over a third of the freshman have scored a 30 or higher on the
ACT, putting them in the top range of students that have taken the test {The University of
Alabama}. This University, unlike Ohio State, only has a total of about 15 athletic teams that
are on campus, also the majority are sports done by both sexes there are only a few that are not.
Now for a little background history of this fine institution.
The institution was founded in 1831, as the first public college in the state. The university
in 1841, the presidents mansion had been completed, but the school only had enrolled 63
students {The University of Alabama History}. Ten years later the enrollment doubled and
kept slowly increasing after that. Different schools of the university started developing in
different parts of the state, the first being in Mobile {The University of Alabama History}.
After the Civil War in 1871 the university reopened for 107 to walk through the doors. Once

again it took some years for enrollment to start growing then in 1921, the enrollment starts
ranging in the thousands and keeps increasing throughout the years.
Finally the last college on the list the University of Louisville, which of course is located
in Louisville, Kentucky. The student enrollment of the school is by far less than the two previous
schools I have talked about. Their average ACT is 25.0 which is decent for a big name school
like U of L {University of Louisville Homepage}. The University of Louisville is also
Kentuckys premier, nationally recognized metropolitan research university {University of
Louisville Homepage}. There are approximately 6,800 faculty and staff throughout the campus
and that is minus assistants. The University of Louisville also bring 27 athletic teams for boys
and girls to participate in, the majority again begin in favor with the girls. Now for a little history
about the Cards.
In 1798, eight men and the intention to build Seminary in Louisville. The needed help
from fellow friends and citizens for funding the project, this institution would later be chartered
by the Kentucky Legislature {About UofL}. Unfortunately, the seminary didnt stay open for
that long, it lasted for 16 years from 1813-1829. In 1840, Louisville College was born and four
years later the Jefferson Seminary became a part of the school. Once again the college had
problems and was forced to close even after prosperous financials and political help. During the
nineteenth century leading into the twentieth century many events happened leading to additions
of the school.
Those are the certain colleges I would love to attend in the future, but will probably not.
Ohio State, Alabama, and Louisville are all great colleges to attend if you want a great education.
Ohio State is probably the best choice to go if you want a wide variety of possible majors to
study. Alabama will provide the best scenery on and off campus, because of the universitys

location. Louisville, of course is a perfect location since its not that far from downtown and its
only 2-2 hours away from this city. These are reasons why I have chosen these three schools
as dream colleges.
