Understand importance of debugging code.
Links to National Curriculum:
Design, write and debug programs that accomplish specific goals, including
controlling or simulating physical systems; solve problems by decomposing them
into smaller parts

Intro

Give out badges (as form of registration)

Recap on last weekwhat do we remember?
What did we learn?
What sort of code did you start to make?

9.15-9.45

Finish off

Give time to go over our codes from last week and

have a go at letting a friend crack them
-writing simple word or sentence down for friends to
unlock

Video

Talk ABOUT CODES GOING WRONGShowing horrible histories video

What was wrong here?
Why are their codes not effective?
What could they have done differently?

Scratch
basics

Talk about how coding is used in scratch- look at

simple scratch code (transferring code into
sentences)
-going over language such as sprites, variables,
script, looks, motion etc (as we are currently not
100% how much scratch children have had
experience of)

10.40-

Debugging

Look at debugging together- using simple game

Go onto individual computer to debug our already
existing scratch games (ones we used last year)
Different levels of complexity in our
games will allow children to work to their
own level (differentiation)

Storyboard of what sort of scratch game they may

like to do the coding for.
They can start playing around with scratch at home
if they would like
