In what ways does your media product use, develop or change
forms and conventions of real media products?
My music video is a representation of freedom in different ways, for
example one way is a positive type of freedom and another is a
negative type of freedom.
My video portrays this as we see two girls who are the same age but
one is homeless, and the other is building up her life. We know this as
we are constantly seeing comparison between the two girls, and the
differences between them. This has been done by the usage of cross
cutting between the two characters. The happy girls freedom begins as
we see her leaving her home and family behind and is on a new
adventure by herself, we see her building up her life, educationally and
personally as we see her with a man in one scene and studying hard in
another. This has been done to show that the happy girl has it all, the
''strong relationship'' with a guy she likes as he likes her back, and we
know this as we see a flirtatious conversation between the two, which
was shot as a close up, so that the audience was able to read the
conversation. She also has her good friendship group and always enjoys
her time with them. We know this as we see her in the music video with
a group of friends and they are all laughing and talking/joking around.
Everyone seems happy and cheerful as everyone is engaged in the
conversation and everyone is laughing, this was expressed well in the
facial expressions of everyone also.

high angle which makes her seem small and less powerful or superior as
she has nothing.
Some Examples are:
The two
characters have to
opposite rolls, and to
help show the opposite
characteristics and different
sides of freedom we have thought
about the mise-en-scene carefully.
For example the sad girl is always in black and she doesnt change outfits,
this is showing that she cannot afford any clothes as she is homeless and
the fact that she is in all black represents that shes is unhappy,
depressed and gives the feel of her giving up on life. On the other hand
we see the happy girl in different clothes for each day and she is smiling a
lot, her clothing is brighter than the sad girls. For example she wears
colourful jeans, matches it which her scarfs, wears makeup, and this is all
helping to show the opposites of the two characters.

The body language of the two girls are also very different and are
opposite to each other once again, as the sad girl always looks up tight,
and seems to also keep to herself a lot.
For example her arms are always in her hoodie pocket and she mostly
keeps her head down and has her face covered. However the happy girl
always has her arms by her side, swaying back and forth which
represents that she is relaxed and not tensed, has her head up rather
than down and her posture gives off a confidence feel. The camera
angles and lighting pay a big part in this also as when we are on the
happy girl, it is more dimmed and gives a more depressing and negative
feel and when we are on the happy girl the room is much brighter and
there is no isolation but with the sad girl she is always by herself and
never really see people around her.
A good example of a real media text is Rihannas music video called
What Now This music video can relate and can be compared to my
music video as Rhianna is locked and based mainly in a dark room and
has been restricted, just like how the character in my music video (The
sad girl) is restricted from going to college and getting somewhere is
life. When the camera is focused on her there is a lot of dark lighting
used just like Rhianna. The dark imagery used in both of this music
video represents sadness, depression, and gives a sense of failure.
Rhiannas music video relates more to the sad girls freedom, as they
have similar imagery and conventions, such as the sad facial
expressions and dark lighting. This shows that our music video does
incorporate conventions which are used in real media texts for example
the similar lighting the camera shots and angles mise-en-scene, have all
been used to create the convention which are usually found in the real
media texts, and build an understanding of what is going on in the
music video.

that the front of the digipak tends to have a large eye catching picture;
the picture illustrated on the front tends to have some relation to the
songs or artists. The song or album title is also found on the front panel
also. At the back you must always have the barcode, record label,
tracks, and extra information. I took all this information into
consideration and created a digipak and the themes and style, fronts
are all in sync. And this is the final look.
