Write Up for Lab Reports:

Should have the following sections:

Title
Authors
Date
Abstract: One or a few sentences briefly detailing what you did and the results of your experiment.
Introduction/Theory: Describe the experiment and purpose for performing it. Include any theory
necessary to understand the experiment.
Equipment: List equipment used. A labeled drawing of the experimental apparatus would be great.
Procedures: Tell me what you did, how you did it. Enough detail someone could repeat it.
Results: Present the results of the experiment neatly (use tables, graphs when appropriate)
Calculations: Present sample calculations for each type of calculation performed while
creating/analyzing results.
Error Analysis: Present a brief discussion of the sources (and approximate sizes) of errors in the
experiment. When requested, provide a statistical analysis of errors (we will discuss this in more detail
during the error propagation lab).
Conclusion: Give a brief description of your conclusions based upon your experimental results: what
have you found, how reliable are your results?
(Bibliography: Not typically needed)
