ALBUM REVIEWS:
By Tom Sparkes
Aside from being a month
of political uncertainty, May
2015, is also one of musical calamity. Two eagerly
anticipated albums were
released last week, both of
which have left me frustrated
and both of which will undoubtedly divide fans; from
one artist they will plead for
more, the other they will beg
to stop.
Rose Windows
Rose Windows

The second travesty of
the month is that Rose
Windows split up before
their latest self-titled album
even made it to the shelves.
To make matters worse, it
is an astonishingly good
album.
Chris Cheveyo formed
Rose Windows back in 2011,
when America was gripped
by the strangle hold of
austerity. With fuel prices
climbing and the cost of
living soaring, most of
the new recession musicians were solo operations;
switching expensive studio
production time for laptop
recordings in bedrooms
and essential food and
fuel. Chris, however, had
an artistic goal in mind
and jumped in feet first by
forming this Seattle-based
sextet.
Rose Windows are the
stylistic equivalent of a
patchwork-quilt. They are
influenced by everything
from American folk to
West Saharan guitar rock,
from pentatonic protometal to traditional Persian
music, from the darker cor-

FOLLOWING the success
of last years exhibition, a new collection of
Pembrokeshire in Black
and White has gone on
display at the Waterfront
Gallery in Milford Docks.
Gallery director David
Randell said: A slight difference this year is that in
addition to photography we
are extending the medium
to include drawings, etchings and water colours.
Most of this, by Pembrokeshire residents, has been
made for this show so it
hasnt been seen before.
John Cahills distinctive
Llewellyns watercolour
works capture the rural
atmosphere of Pembrokeshire cottages and farmhouses
in a totally different way.

NFU Cymru is inviting its members in Pembrokeshire to a county meeting to discuss the new
proposals for the Welsh Government Basic Payment Scheme (BPS) set out within a consultation
launched at the end of March.
Starting at 7.30pm, on May 21, the meeting will
be held at the Agriculture House, Winch Lane,
Haverfordwest.
Simon Richards, Pembrokeshire NFU Cymru
County Chairman, said, The BPS will affect
every farmer in Wales and this meeting is an opportunity to discuss your concerns and get some
clarity on the Welsh Governments proposals.
During the meeting we will go through the consultation paper with members, talking through
the discussions that have taken place since the
legal challenge and seek members views on the
options that are now being consulted upon.
We know that the future design of the Basic
Payment Scheme is a contentious issue and our
membership will have a range of views on the
best way forward. . I would urge our members to
come along to our county meeting.
The 12-week consultation, which can be found
at gov.wales/consultations will close on June 23.
