1) Explain with neat diagram, generation of an alternating voltage.
2) Define and explain the following terms related to an alternating quantity.
i). Instantaneous value ii). Time Period iii). Frequency iv). Amplitude v). Cycle
vi). Angular Frequency.
3) Explain terms:
(i) RMS (Effective) value, (ii) Average value (iii) Form factor (iv) Peak factor
4) How an alternating quantity is represented by a Phasor? Explain, What is the phase of an
alternating quantity?
5) Explain with diagram what do you understand by 1) in phase ii). Lagging iii). Leading as
applied to sinusoidal a.c. quantities.
6) Define inductive reactance & capacitive reactance and explain its variation with frequency.
7) Sketch the waveform of a current I = 10sin 314.159 t amp. And find its maximum, r.m.s and
average values. Find also the frequency.
8) Four emfs are given by

Find the resultant of above four emfs.

11) What is Power factor? Explain its significance.
12) A series Circuit consisting of 30 ohm resistor, 70 mH inductor and 75 uF Capacitor is
connected to a 110 V, 50 Hz, Single phase supply, Calculate the current, voltage across
individual element and the overall power factor of the circuit. Draw a neat phasor diagram
showing I, VR, VL, VC and V.
13) Explain generation of poly phase voltages.
14) Explain 3 phase power and power factor measurement methods using 2 watt meters.
