The best resources for research.

When placing a bet, regardless if its a pre match bet of an in-play bet, its vital that you do
the research as betting blind is one of the key mistakes people make. I am going to share
with you what I use to research both my pre match tips and in-play tips.

Pre match research

Soccerway (soccerway.com) This is by far the best and most useful site to use for any
football research, you can find information about a single team, a single player or two teams
H2H from the past 30+ years. As well as information on a team / player record, you can also
look at league stats which allow you to pick any league worldwide, select which year of
information you want and then change the league table to home form, away form, past 6
games form and average goals per game (overs/unders record).

I use soccerway for almost every bit of research I do as you can find out 90% of the
information youll need to know on there, from how a team is performing, how they are
performing against a certain category of teams etc
Sky Sports News Although this isnt a source of research I use much, it is something I use
whenever I am researching premier league games. Every Saturday morning you can go on
to the sky sports site or mobile app and under news you will see match previews for every
premier league game. On the reviews, it tells you all the teams news including whos out
injured, whos suspended and who is illegible for the game. Sky sports is a very limited way
of doing research but if you are looking for team news on premier league games, this is the
most reliable source.
Twitter When looking for team news outside of the premier league, the best place to find it
is Twitter. Almost every club football side has an official twitter account and team news is
often posted on there (on game day). It is important to look at the team news for a side
before backing a selection because as much as people say 1 player doesnt make a team,
1 key player for a team can make a whole lot of difference and can be the deciding factor
between your bet winning or losing. As simple as it may sound, typing in to the twitter search
bar Juventus team news or PSG team news can be very helpful as you find a lot of media
accounts have team news / player news that may not be posted anywhere else, so for the
sake of a simple browse, its more than worth it. Again, Twitter is not the best form of
research, but you can find out team news / weather etc.

In-Play research
As you all may know, many tipsters on here go on to the inplay section on Bet365, look for a
team who is dominating and then tip them to score, but be assured this is not a profitable
method and you will find you lose money more often than not if you do this. Using soccerway
is again vital to placing an inplay bet as the inplay stats along with both teams stats/form
can help determine which bet is the best one and if the bet is valuable or not.
Here is an example of how Id research for an inplay tip..
Firstly, Id go on to Bet365 and quickly scroll through EVERY single game, to see if I can find
a game in which one team is massively dominating or a game in which both sides have had
plenty of shots on goal.
Here is my example: I have gone on to Bet365 and I can see the home side in this game is
on top at Half Time and is having the better of the game.

I would then quickly go on to soccerway to view the form / stats

of both sides in the game to make sure the home side havent just
had a good 45 minutes. After going on to soccerway, I have found
out that the home side have been very good at home so far this
season scoring 6 goals in 4 games and winning 3 of their first 4
home games.

I then went to look at the stats/form of the away side who had been the poorer side after 45
minutes. After viewing the stats/form of the away side, I found that they have scored in all 3
of their away games so far in the season and had scored a huge 12 goals in them 3 games.

This shows why you should NEVER just jump in to a bet by looking at Bet365 stats, as many
people would have jumped on a HOME WIN or a HOME 1st GOAL, however upon more
research we found that the away side were very good scorers away from home and that
despite having a good first half, the home side werent really as
good value as we first thought. The game ended 3-1 to the away
side which gives us the perfect example that you should
ALWAYS research and never just go off inplay stats.

After finding what you think is a good selection based on Bet365

stats, always be sure to quickly go on to soccerway and check how
both teams are currently performing as sometimes, the Bet365
inplay stats can be VERY misleading. Once you get used to the
soccerway site, it will take you 1/2 minutes maximum to research how both teams have
been performing and will give you a better idea of what selection to bet on, if any.

Discipline
Betting discipline is perhaps the reason many who can find that elusive edge, dont go on to
make long term profits. When I talk about betting discipline, I mean your ability to handle the
inevitable losing runs, and only to place bets when you feel you have an edge. Fun Bets or
Interest bets are the downfall of many otherwise profitable gamblers.
A fun bet is any bet you place that doesnt meet your usual criteria for a value bet. It could
be a bet on the Monday night football just because its on TV, even though you have no
strong inclination, or it might be a bet on a race at Southwell while youre waiting for the
Champions League to start. These type of bets are a drain on the profits you make from your
main bets, the ones you really fancy. The ones youre confident you have an edge on.
From my years of betting experience, its simple to say that if you dont have the correct
disclipine, you will never make a long term profit from the bookies. Keeping the correct
discipline is vital as if you dont you can blow your whole balance very quickly.

How to keep the correct discipline:

Never chase losers If you place a bet and it loses, then just accept it, dont rush straight
in to another bet to win your money back as I guarantee you that youll lose all your money
very quckly doing this. Chasing losers is probably the bookies biggest earner, as Id say 95%
of punters who lose a bet, will then place a higher staked bet in order to win their money
back.
Staking Before you start taking betting seriously, you need to decide one of the following 2
options; I am going to stake level across all bets OR I am going to stake a % of my balance
on every bet. This is very important as too many punters trying to make a long term profit
from the bookies start staking ridiculous amounts when they feel they are on a winning run
or when they feel they need to chase a loser. In my opinion, the best option is to stake
level, which means you place the same stake on every bet, regardless of how high or low
your balance becomes. I stake 20 on every bet I place and have followed this method for
over a year now and it has worked perfect for me. Placing the same stake on each bet stops
me from getting really confident and staking most or all of my balance on one bet, for it then
to lose and end up with nothing. If you are wanting to use the % stake, then this is how it
should be done... Decide on a % between 5% - 10%, once chosen you should never
increase or decrease this %, we are going to use 10% for our example.
My balance is 100 and I have chosen a 10% staking plan, this means you stake 10% of
your balance on every bet, so the first bet I stake with be 10 as that is 10% of my 100
balance. If your bet wins and your new balance becomes 110, you then stake 11 on your
next bet as 10% of 110 is 11. Using this system means you will never be left with nothing
after one or two silly bets and that the chances of you losing all your pot is very slim.

Bet Type + Odds.

This is not essential to follow, but I have found that following this is the best way to maximise
profits when betting.
For pre match bets, only ever place bets on a SINGLE, DOUBLE or TREBLE, any more
selections added to the treble and the chance of the bet losing becomes really high. I
wouldnt ever advise anyone to place an accumulator and this is not a way of making a long
term profit. In terms of odds for pre match bets, Id advise odds between 1.80 (4/5) 4.00
(3/1). Anything lower than 1.80 for a pre match bet and I wouldnt advise taking it as there is
not much value at all. Betting pre match means you dont get the extra help of the inplay
stats, you only get the pre game research and this only takes you so far, so by taking odds
of 1.80 and above only, you maximise your chances of profit and minimise your chances of
failure.
For inplay bets, you should only ever place SINGLES. After a look of trial and error, I have
found that singles are the best way to maximise profit inplay. In terms of odds, the lowest
odds you should ever back are 1.50 (1/2) and the highest is any at all as its possible to get
value at any odds above 1.50. The reason the lowest odds you should ever back inplay are
1.50 is simple, anything below that and you will need an incredible high strike rate to
turnover a profit. If every single bet you placed was at odds of 1.50 (which is very unlikely as
most will range from 1.50 up to 2.00, averaging at 1.68), you would need a strike rate of
66.6% to break even, which is still high but is achievable. I done an average of my last 250
inplay bets and the odds averaged at 1.68, meaning Id only need a strike rate of 59.5% to
break even and a strike rate any higher would secure profit.
Dont fall in to the trap of thinking inplay odds of 1.40 are BANKERS, because I assure you
this is not the case. If you find an inplay bet, youve done all the research and your very
confident its going to land, but the odds are only 1.40, be patient / disciplined and WAIT for
1.50 and above. The bet may land before it hits 1.50 but this is perfectly fine, betting inplay is
about finding VALUE, not betting on low odds leaving you needing a very high strike rate.

In-Play markets to exploit and markets to avoid.

The same as most things written in this guide, its just my opinion for personal experience so
you do not have to follow this, however I have found that following this maximises profits.

Markets which have the MOST success:

Match Goals, Team Goals, Clean Sheet NO.
The reason these are the best 3 markets to bet on is because regardless of the minute of the
game, if youve bet on one of these markets it can land up until the final whistle. These
markets are not timed, ie: If you bet Juventus O1.5 Team Goals, Roma could score 10 goals
in a row and as long as Juventus then score, it has landed. Your selection is under no time
limit to land and can land at any point between you placing it and the final whistle.

Markets to AVOID:
Next Goal, Next Goal Before X amount of minutes, Team to WIN.
The reason Id avoid the above markets is because they are all timed or limited in some
respect. Lets take next goal for example; Man United after playing Preston and are
dominating them, Preston havent seen any of the ball and United look certain to score the
next goal so you place the bet, its very easy in football for teams to score against the run of
play and 1 counter attack could lead till a Preston goal. Lets run that example again but
using one of the markets that have the most success (clean sheet no) Youre watching the
same game, Man United are dominating and you are sure theyll score the next goal, the
bookies are offering good odds and you want to take it Instead of being tempted at the
higher odds, be disciplined and take Preston Clean Sheet NO at lower odds, WHY? Simple,
as mentioned above Preston could score against the run of play as anyone can in football,
and if this happens and youve placed next goal then your bet will lose, however if this
happens and you have placed Preston Clean Sheet NO, youre bet still has the same
chances of winning.
That may be confusing to a lot of people but it simple terms, never bet on a market which
can have lost before the full time whistle has blown.

FTs main rules

1.
2.
3.
4.

Never bet what you cant afford to lose.

Always stay disciplined, with discipline you will fail to make long term profit.
Never bet blind, always do your research.
Never bet on a game just because you can watch it LIVE on tv, this is one of the
biggest downfalls for punters, they bet on games just so they have something to
watch. You will not profit from doing this.
5. Stick to your staking plan and never change from it, regardless if you hit a really good
winning streak or a really bad losing streak.
6. Record everything. I myself am a statistical freak; I literally record everything. I would
certainly recommend recording every bet you place: the date, the time, the odds, the
size of the bet, pay-out etc. The list goes on, and the more you record the easier it is
to analyse bets, to learn from potential mistakes and to identify where youre going
wrong.

FAQs
How much do you stake on each bet? From day one I have staked 20 on every bet I
place, this wont ever change.
How much did you start with in your balance? When I started taking betting seriously and
came away from the fun element of it, I started with 200 in my balance.
Do you ever bet for fun? Not any more, betting for fun is something you must cut out if you
are wanting to make long term profit.
What is your top tip to profit long term? Accept you are going to lose along the way, this
is winning not gambling. As long as you stayed disciplined and do the correct research, youll
profit long term.
