4. Windows makes constant updates to its software, and firmware that allows your computer to stay up to date with the latest
protection software. They do this in a few ways.
Home Computer: through the computers internet connection it will send a request to Microsoft and check the firmware for any
tweaks and updates that may have happened.
If there is 1000 computers downloading updates individually then the internet connection that these computers are connected to
will be very slow and very poor download speeds. While if these updates are downloaded to a central server that the computers
then connect to, this process to wont take long to download at all as the server would directly give the updates to the computer or
the computer could run off the server.
5. The difference between Open source and Closed Source software is the way that another user, not involved in creating the software,
can interact with the code that controls how a program and file works.
Open Source is open access for all people to change at their will, this leads to the variation of all websites and programs as
people work and improve on this original program. The original creator may lock some of the code that is core to the program
starting and booting up.
o Linux is an example of open source
Closed Source is the opposite of open source, where the creator has lock all code and there is no way to change anything of
the code and this allows for the program to stay as it is without any modifications from moders or coders who change other
programs to make it and easier to interact with.
6. The difference between Freeware and Shareware is that Freeware is free and doesnt require any payment for the program, while
Shareware will require a payment for the use of the software, either initially or later on after a trial period.
Freeware
o Some programs (Paint)
o Most photos
Shareware
o Most Songs
o Some Programs (Adobe)
7. Proprietary Software is software owned by an individual or company and is normally major restrictions on how the software can and
cant be used, and most of the time the source code for this software is kept a secret. Examples of this include operating systems
like Windows as they dont reveal the source code of the OS and there are major restrictions on how this program can be used.
