    A 19-year-old former cadet sergeant admitted Monday to fondling a 14-year-old at a
    Kanata training camp last summer despite twice being warned against romancing girls
    under his command.
    Marc-Andre Longval pleaded guilty to sexual assault and got 20 months probation
    including a ban on being in a position of trust with girls under 16.
    But in what the judge called a rare exception, he won't have to submit a DNA sample or
    appear on the national sex offender registry.

    Judge Hugh Fraser said it's a serious offence given Longval's position of trust, but noted
    he was barely 18 at the time and had no record. The court heard he's a tireless volunteer
    who works two jobs to pay for college.
    "I believe you are not someone we are going to see before the court again," Fraser said,
    concluding that in this case Longval's privacy rights outweigh any concern about
    protection of the public.
    Longval and the girl became involved at the cadet training camp. When the pair met
    one night in a wooded area, Longval put a hand down the girl's pants and underwear
    and fondled her genitals.
    The girl couldn't legally consent because of his position of authority over her.
    Longval had twice been warned - and once demoted - because of inappropriate
    relationships with cadets her age.
