SAINT-GOBAIN
Performance Plastics
Fobruary 1, 2016
‘Senator Charles E. Schumer
United States Senate
Leo O'Brien Building, Room 420
Albany, NY 12207
Dear Senator Schumer:
‘Thank you for your letter, received on Jan. 28, 2016. I'm not just the
President and CEO of Saint-Gobain Performance Plastics. I grew up locally,
about 20 miles from Hoosick Falls, and still have deep roots in, and history
With, the area.
We share your concems and have been addressing this matter promptly,
proactively and openly to achieve what is the number one priority forall of
Us: the health and welfare of the residents of Hoosick Falls and Saint-Gobain
‘employees, many of whom live in the village.
Since Saint-Gobain learned of the presence of PFOA and alerted the U.S. EPA
in December 2014, we have been committed to working with all local, state
and federal officials.
We also had the opportunity to meet with a member of your team, along
with village officials, in Hoosick Falls in January 2015. We then met again in
person with your staff member in January 2016.
Wwe wanted to share @ number of significant steps involving short-term and
long-term actions we have taken or that are underway. Specifically:
1, Within the next two to three weeks, the village will have a temporary
water filtration system for the community, funded by Saint-Gobain,
Which will provide clean drinking water to all residents.
2. For the past several months, we have been providing bottled water for
residents and water filtration systems for institutions.
3. The long-term filtration system, again funded by Saint-Gobain, will be
Installed later this year. We wll also fund the system's maintenance
and operation.

4. We will continue to cooperate with local, state and federal officials as
health studies, Investigations of the source of the contamination,
further well testing and remediation options are reviewed. Following
several other manufacturers who owned the property, Saint-Gobain
Performance Plastics became part of the community In 1996. As the
current owners of the McCaffrey site, we will continue to take &
leadership role in ensuring the water in Hoosick Falls Is safe for all,
even though the liablity has not been determined,
{As the largest employer in Hoosick Falls, with approximately 200 employees,
vwe are fully invested in the well-being of this village. As you so rightly
pointed out, neither your office nor Saint-Gobain can do this alone. We must
be willing to work together, with full transparency from all government
agencies, to review all studies, analyze all options and focus on the most
Important goal: to ensure the people of Hoosick Falls have a safe and healthy
place to call home.
To that end, I would like to suggest that we discuss this via phone as soon as
possible, We also welcome an opportunity to sit down with you in person for
further discussions,
We will reach out to your office so that we can work together to formulate a
plan going forward that is satisfactory for the residents of Hoosick Falls, our
‘company and the government.
Sincerely,
Pr- # :
