Over multiple editing sessions spanning several weeks, Kerem Bal edited footage for a school film project. The initial footage was unusable due to poor lighting, so additional filming sessions were scheduled to collect better quality video. Through the iterative editing and filming process, Kerem incorporated new footage, removed unwanted audio, added sound effects and titles, and performed match cuts between shots filmed on different dates. By the final sessions, the full visual and audio editing was complete and the film was ready to upload online. Kerem found the role of editor suited him well due to his video editing skills and ability to communicate with the film crew throughout the process.

I only imported our best footage as we had multiple shots of the same scene to make sure nothing went wrong, so it made it easier to edit in the future when backtracking. Problems encountered I noticed that all of our footage that we had filmed was unusable due to inadequate lighting, making the footage very grainy and therefore poor resolution. How I resolved the problem I notified the cinematographer and as I am the director as well as editor we were quickly able to organise another film date.

I put the new footage in a chronological order and viewed what we have so far to find any room for improvement. Again I only imported the best footage as we had several shots of the same scenes. Problems encountered I found that we have no close-ups or extreme close-ups and feel like we need them to enhance our footage. We also needed a POV shot for one particular scene as it looked hard to follow without it.

How I resolved the problem I contacted the cinematographer

Problems encountered there was some unwanted background noise such as talking in one of the scenes which ruined the scene How I resolved the problem I contacted the cinematographer and organised a final film.

I had make sure that the match on action was performed well during the scenes as they were filmed on two different dates and its important that the match on action is done correctly otherwise the footage looks wrong. Problems encountered there were no problems in this session, however we did find that there was room for improvement through an extra filming session. How I resolved the problem we organised an extra filming session and got some extra shots

Location Oaks Park High School Members Present Kerem Bal Editing start time 3:30 Editing end time 6:00 Editing: This editing session I incorporated the final shots that we filmed from the extra filming session and now all of the visual editing is complete. Problems encountered the edited piece had no non-diegetic sound. How I resolved the problem as we are sharing sound within our group of two both me and my other group member looked for sound effects needed. To make the process easier we made a rough list of what sound effects we needed and divided it within the group. Editing date 17.02.16 Location Oaks Park High School Members Present Kerem Bal Editing start time 9:00 Editing end time 3:00 Editing: In this session I came in during the holidays which meant that I got extra time for editing and was able to do much more in one session. This session I edited it in the non-diegetic sound that we gathered as a group and made sure that it comes in at the correct times. I also had to fade it in and out for it to seem natural to the audience. I also incorporated the use of titles, and created a title sequence, crediting the crew and actors in the production as well as including the name of the production. Problems encountered one of the sound effects cannot be heart without headphones on. How I resolved the problem I found a similar sound, that can be heard without the use of headphones.

This was the last editing session and the footage is now complete and ready to upload to YouTube.
Overall, I feel that the role of editor was best suited to
because I already had previous knowledge of how to edit final cut. I also have good communication skills making easier to tell my group on how to improve the footage and give feedback as well as receive it. I was could up my could
me on it to
able to work independently as well as in a team so I
receive feedback and opinions. I also didnt mind giving time after school to edit our production meaning that I devote a lot of time towards the process.
In conclusion, the editing process was a long one however it
