Prior to the 1977 season, the league champion was determined by a playoff system. From 1977 to
1983 the champion was determined by the best won-lost record in a round robin league set-up.
Beginning in 1984, the league was divided into North and South Divisions with champions in
each.
In 1997, the league was divided into North, Central and South Divisions with champions in each.
In 2000, the league returned to a North & South Division format.
In 2006, a Blue / White division format will be introduced. The Blue will consist of the top
winning % teams (Brother Rice, De La Salle, Fenwick, Loyola, Mount Carmel, Providence, St.
Ignatius, St. Rita). You play everyone twice with four cross-over games into the White division
that do not count toward your CCL record.
In 2010, Blue / White / Red division format was introduced.

Washington Nationals
2012
In June, 1969, Pete Mackanin became the first Brother Rice player to be drafted
and signed when he was selected in the 4th round rally by the Washington
Senators, now known as the Texas Rangers. He was brought up to play shortstop
during the 1973 season, but was traded to the Montreal Expos for Willie Davis
during the winter of 1974-75. During both the 1975 and 1976 seasons, Pete
started at second base for the Expos. In 1977, he became the backup second
baseman to Dave Cash and also backup to shortstop Chris Speier. After playing
the 1978 season with the Expos Triple AAA Denver Club, Pete's contract was
bought by the Phillies for whom he became a utility infielder, playing backup in
1979 to Rose, Trillo, Conception and Schmidt. During the off season, he was
traded to the Minnesota Twins where he played several positions, but mainly
second base and shortstop. In 1982, after being cut by the White Sox (who had
signed him as a free agent), Pete signed with the Texas Rangers' Triple AAA team
at Denver. In 1985, Pete took over the managerial duties for the Cubs' Class A
team in Peoria where he managed for two seasons before becoming the Cubs
Director of Player Development. At Peoria, his team won the Championship in his
first season with them. Later, Pete moved up to coach the Cubs Triple AAA Club in
Iowa. The summer of 1991, however, found Pete completing his second year as
manager of the Cincinnati Reds Triple AAA Club in Nashville. In 1993, Pete
managed Baltimore's "A" Club in Fredericksburg, Maryland. In 1995, Pete was
named the Sporting News Minor League Manager of the Year for his
accomplishments in managing Ottawa in the Montreal Expos organization. In
1997, he became the 3rd base coach for the Montreal Expos. After coaching the
Hickory team in North Carolina in the Pirates organization in 2002, Pete moved
back to the major league level. He has served as the bench coach for the
Pittsburgh Pirates (2007), and was named Manager of the Cincinnati Reds in
2007. Pete serves currently as the bench coach for the Philadelphia Phillies.
#2.
In June, 1978, former Brother Rice catcher, Scott Meyer, was drafted by the
Oakland A's following his junior year at Western Michigan University. Scott played
Double AA ball for Milford, Connecticut for a couple of seasons before his contract
was sold to the Baltimore Orioles. He played for a season in Arizona for one of
their farm clubs before being released. However, in September of 1978 following
his rookie season in the minors, Scott was brought up for the month of September
by the Oakland A's for the remainder of the season. He appeared in several
games including about 6 starts. One of those starts was in Chicago against the
White Sox. He caught the entire game, going one for four. That hit came in his
first appearance at the plate when he doubled off the left field wall and eventually
scored. Scott, therefore, is the second former Brother Rice baseball player (after
Pete Mackanin) to play in the major leagues. In 1999, he was working as a
fireman in Phoenix, Arizona.
#3.
In June, 1978, former Brother Rice catcher was drafted in the first round of the
draft by the San Francisco Giants. Overall, he was the fifth pick across the entire
nation and the very first of the catchers to be drafted that year. Bob played at
Great Falls, Montana; Clinton, Iowa; Shreveport, Louisiana and Phoenix, Arizona
(AAA) before being released in May, 1985. He was then signed by the Seattle
Mariners and played at Chattanooga, Tennessee where he remained until his
release at the end of the season. Bob has been scouting for the Giants since
1990.
#4.
In June, 1977, former Brother Rice outfielder Jim Adduci was drafted in the 28th
round after high school, but instead opted to accept a baseball scholarship to
Southern Illinois University where he starred in the outfield for three seasons.
Following his junior year, he was drafted by the St. Louis Cardinals in the 7th
round. He was brought up for the last month of the 1983 season after having
some very successful seasons with St. Petersburg, Little Rock and Louisville. He
played the 1984 season at both first base and outfield for Louisville (AAA) again,
before being traded in the off season to the Milwaukee Brewers. While playing for
the Brewer's Vancouver AAA Club, Jim was called up several times to play with the
Brewers. After playing in Japan for the next two seasons, Jim was signed by the
Philadelphia Phillies and played for their Scrantron AAA Club. He was called up
for about a month by the Phillies as a replacement for injured John Kruk and hit .
267 while there. Jim retired from playing with Scrantron following the 1990
season. He now serves as an instructor for Bulls/White Sox training Academy in
Lisle and lives in Evergreen Park.
#5.
Bob Ritchey scouted for the California Angels organization from 1989 to 1991 and
has since become a world championship kick-boxer.
#6
In June, 1995, pitcher, Christian "C. J. Keating" was drafted in the 53rd round by
the Los Angeles Dodgers, but opted to attend and play ball for Creighton
University.
#7
In June, 1997, pitcher/3rd baseman Ryan Quinn was drafted in the 41st round by
the San Diego Padres but opted to attend Lewis University.
#8
In June, 2001, Right Fielder Anthony Albano was drafted in the 20th round by the
Minnesota Twins but opted to attend the University of Evansville and finish his
career at Florida Atlantic University.
#9
In June, 2012, infielder Mike McQuillan, was drafted in the 33rd round, by the
Washington Nationals, after a stellar four year career, at the University of Iowa.
Mike recently retired from the Nationals AA organization.
