Assignment # 4 - Due Sep 23, Wednesday

Total points: 20

Name: Shane Holbrook

Determine the Reactions of following Beams

1.

First we need to focus the 2.5 kips/ft over a more direct location, this is done by
multiplying it by the total distance and then using half of it as so:

2.5 x 24=60 kips

The location of the new force will be at 12

Now we can solve our equation, we know through all of these questions (1-4) there is
no horizontal force due to the pins on one side of the other. So we can already
assume the horizontal force for all equations 1-4 is 0.
So lets solve for RA

A=Rb x 206012=
Rb20720
720
=36
20
So Rb=36 kip

Now we can find Ra:

Ra+ Rb=60
6036=24
So Ra=24 kip
2.

Here first we need to take our w = 6 kN/m and focus the force more so:

64=24 kn

Now we need to find our reactions:

A=rb7361.5245

Rb754120
Rb7+174
174
=24.86
7
RB=24.86 kN
Now we can find Ra:

Ra+ Rb=60
6024.86=35.14
RA=35.14 kN
3.

This time lets solve from the other side

:

B=RA15+85+108+204
RA15+ 40+80+ 80
RA15+ 200
200
=13.33
15
RA=13.33 kips

Now lets solve for RB:

RA+ RB=20
2013.33=6.67
RB=6.67 kips
4.

Hint: Total load is 36KN and

36 KN force is acting 6m
from A and 3m from B

For this equation, (as the hint stated) we use 1/3 and 2/3 of the length to find the
answer so the 36 kN will be focused 6m from A and 3m from B.
Lets solve for RA first:

RA=

36
=54
6( 9)

RA=54 kN
Now lets solve for RB:

36
=108
3 (9)
RB=108 kN
RB=
