Materials
150 yds Worsted Weight
US size 5 (3.75 mm)
US size 7 (4.5 mm)
Stitch Marker
Tapestry Needle
Gauge: 5 sts/ 1 inch
Stockinette Stitch
Finished Measurements:
20 Circumference after blocking, hat has approximately 2+ inches of
positive ease. As hat is knit in a modified ribbed pattern throughout, fabric
is very stretchy.
Cast On
With smaller needles, using Long tail method Cast On 88 sts, +1. Join in
round, being careful not to twist stitches. Slip first st on RH needle to LH
needle and knit these two stitches together for the first stitch. (1 stitch
decreased) Place Marker for beginning of round.
*Note: ALL Knit stitches are knit TBL (through back loop)
Pattern
Round 1: * K1 tbl, P1* to end.
Round 2: K1 tbl, P1, *K3 tbl, P1* to last 2 sts, K2 tbl.
Repeat Rounds 1 & 2 until piece measures 2 from CO edge. Change to
larger needles, continue in pattern until piece measures 7.5 from CO edge
(for slouchier version add another .5 to 1.5 depending on how slouchy
you want your hat).
Decrease Round: K1, K2tog tbl, P1, *K2tog tbl, K1 tbl, P1* to end.
Next Round: *K1 tbl* to end.

Next Round: *K1 tbl, K1 tbl, P1* to end.


Next Round: *K2tog tbl, K1 tbl* to end.
Next Round: *K1 tbl, P1* to end.
Next Round: *K1 tbl* to end.
Next Round: *K1 tbl, P1* to end.
Next Round: *K2tog tbl* to end.
Next 2 Rounds: Knit all stitches.
Next Round: *K2tog* to end.
Break yarn, leaving a 6 inch tail. Thread tail through tapestry needle, and
pull tail through remaining stitches on needles. Pull tight and weave in
ends. Block and enjoy!
