Assistant Tennis Coach From Valley Catholic High School Arrested

On Friday, May, 14 2010, at 6:30 p.m. the Beaverton Police Department received a call
from Valley Catholic High School about a possible inappropriate relationship between
one of their assistant coaches and a female student.

The suspect, Christopher Samuel Rijken (pronounced Rye-ken), is an assistant tennis

coach with Valley Catholic High School. It’s alleged that while on a local tennis
tournament circuit, May 11, 2010, Rijken had given a ride to one of his female students.
During that time he stopped at several different locations within Washington and
Multnomah counties and took nude photographs of the 16 year old victim. Rijken then
later provided a CD of the photographs to the student while on school campus.

On Tuesday, May 18, 2010, at 4:00 p.m., Rijken was arrested at his residence and
charged with Using Child in Display of Sexually Explicit Conduct (Measure 11 crime),
Encouraging Child Sex Abuse I and Encouraging Child Sex Abuse II. He’s currently
lodged at the Washington County Jail and will be arraigned at 3:00 p.m. at the
Washington County Circuit Courthouse.

Detectives believe there may be additional victims and are asking anyone who may have
had a similar incident with Rijken to come forward. Please call the police at 503-629-
0111 to report it.
