Role of Pharmacy
• Pharmacists in industry usually work in technical areas such as
research, development, production and quality control as well as
non-technical areas such as marketing and administration.
• medicine formulation
Role of Pharmacy
In research and development, in order to find the most effective
formulation of a medicine, industrial pharmacists have to
rigorously check the concentration, impurity levels and
stability of products i.e. “product development” –
preparing of drugs in dosage forms.
Role of Pharmacy
• Some industrial pharmacists specialize in manufacturing
and production. They set up and standardize the processes
used to manufacture drugs and medicines on a massive
scale.
• In areas such as this, your knowledge of pharmacy needs to
be complemented by good management,
communication and customer liaison
skills.
Role of Pharmacy
• Industrial pharmacists are also employed in quality
control. They look at the processes and raw
materials involved in making a medicine and assess
the final product. For example, they carry out tests to
establish the shelf life and stability of a medicine.
• For pharmaceuticals, no product would be sold unless and
until it passed all of it's quality control requirements.
Role of Pharmacy
• Pharmacists are also preferred in administrative control
activities such as liaison with government regulatory
agencies, reviewing control procedures and auditing results.
