1.1. INTRODUCTION.
This section describes the purpose of the
Strobex, provides a physical des-
and lists and functional
characteristics, capabilities and features.
1.2. DESCRIPTION.
The Model 135M-11 Strobex (see figure 1-1) (hereafter referred to as the Strobex) is a lightweight, handheld strobe lamp. The source flash tube has a highly concentrated light source, making viewing easy in bright sunlight. The beam illuminates retro-reflective targets on main rotor, to indicate rotor track, and on tail rotor, to measure clock angle. The Strobex is also used to measure rpm of rotating components.
1.3. LEADING PARTICULARS.

When with one
the blades did not uniformly. 018 and 019 added to correct the problem. RiB was also added to improve settabillty of Ri9. (174)
When S501 was switched from A to B or from 0 to C while the
unit was a spike of current was
drawn S501. 0503 was added to
correct this problem. At the same time R50i was added since 0503 defeated the safety bleed path R5. R50i provides a safety bleed resistor for C502. (255)
Added position E to S501 to provide for locking oscillator feature to work at higher RPM. 020 was added and rear panels were screened to show position E. (271)
01 and 02 were changed from 2N5497 to 2N6292. 6292s are faster and run cooler, this allowed for the deletion of heat sinks from circuit board assembly. (336)
Added K1 thermal circuit breaker to shut off unit in the event the was held down at full power for more than five minutes. This eliminated the possibllty of thermal overload. (338)
August 5, 1976. R9 was changed from 150K to 220K to bias 011 closer to the emitter current in 03. This allowed the unit to calibrate easier at low RPMs. (353)
November 22, 1976. R6 was 10K 2 watt to 5K 5 watt. In with S501 on position 0 or E and RPM dial turned near full clockwise, would not flash until warmed up. Changing R6 cured problem. (383)

May 5, 1977. When balancing with the Strobex and used as phase measurement means, it was that the RPM dial be turned above 200 or the strobe would not flash fast to see the subject clearly. A third pole was added on the mode switch (S501) and R26 and R27 were added to switch in a voltage in place of the RPM potentiometer (R502) when mode switch is in position A. Thus the RPM dial setting no longer effects operation
on "A". 2)
September 16, 1977. The one piece bakelite handle/switch assembly was no longer available from Cutler-Hammer. A three piece molded handle/trigger of ChadwickHelmuth design is now used. This change required the hole pattern in the housing to change and a new bracket was incorporated to hold both the handle and the capacitors in place. (435)
October 30, 1977, sensitivity was
found to be not as good as the im-
proved Phazor. The strobes' sensitivity to the magnetic pickup signal was by changing C11 from a 15 nanofarad capacitor to a 22 nanofarad capacitor.
February 6, 1979. To and reflector durability we replaced the chrome-plated spun aluminum reflector with a nickel rhodium reflector. As a consequence of this the voltage lead was rerouted around the reflector instead of it and a
was added to hold the reflector in place. (640)
CHADWICK-HELMUTH
Manual No. 768-9075
May 25, 1979. To make and
repair easier, studs were added to
hold the reflector and lens to the housing.
Mav 31. 1979. Bourns could not deliver the knob/pot used for R502 (RPM control)
for six so they were replaced
a potentiometer and ten-
turn dial Spectrol. This required
a different in the rear panel.
(676)
June 21, 1979. F1 was deleted. Field failures of F1 were always accompanied by failure of 01 and 02 which opened and prevented further damage. F1 was harder to find field repair than the transistors. (683)
April 8, 1980. Added an alternate part for 05. A 2N6028 will work in place of the MPU132 although the part must be reversed in the circuit board. (780)
May 9, 1980. Main trigger switch S502 was a reliability problem and was changed to a military style switch made by Otto Controls that solved the problem. The mount-
plate for the switch in the handle had
to be revised to make the hole accommodate the new switch. (802)
to
January 20, 1984. Added op improve the accuracy and of the oscillator for easier
calibration and performance.
This eliminated the matching of
03 and 011 011. R9 was
also deleted. C14, R32, 07, R33, R31, R29 and R30 were added to support U1. (1751)
March 6, 1985. R12 was from 100K to 11 OK and R31 was changed from
20K to 50K. This further
calibration of the unit. (2204)
April 18, 1985. After a number of transformer (T1 01) failures in the field, it was found that under certain conditions 01 and 02 could fail short and not open to T101. This subjected T101 to thermal damage. As a result F1 was reinstalled in the circuit to correct the problem. (2243)
October 30, 1985.
computerized manufacturing system could not accept reference designators longer than 4 characters. All the 1200 series reference designators were changed to 500 series. (2512)

4.2. THEORY OF OPERATION.
The Strobex is used to illuminate retroreflective targets attached to the main rotor and/or tail rotor. When used with the main rotor to view rotor track, the Strobex illuminates attached to the tips of rotor blades. In this mode, the Strobex is triggered (caused to flash) by a signal from a Magnetic Pickup attached to the fixed swashplate and an Interrupter or Interrupter Set attached to the rotating swashplate. When used with the tail rotor, the Strobex illuminates a target on the blade grip. In this mode, the Strobex is triggered by a Velometer attached to, or near, the tail rotor gear box. This displays a clock angle which, when interpreted by a Balance Chart, tells where to The Strobex

5.5. DISASSEMBLY OF STROBEX.
The following paragraphs provide procedures necessary to disassemble the Strobex. Further disassembly is not recommended. Disassemble Strobex as follows (see figure 5-1).
Dangerous voltages are present in the
Strobex which may cause or
death. Disconnect Strobex from
Balancer and discharge capacitors C501 and C502 prior to any repair. The flash tube is at several atmospheres pressure and may cause if broken. Wear safety shield or safety glasses when repairing Strobex.
Avoid twisting or bending flash

1.1. INTRODUCTION.
This section contains the Illustrated Parts Breakdown for the Model 135M-ii.
1.2. WHICH PARTS ARE LISTED.
In general, the assemblies and parts installed at the time the end item was manufactured are listed and identified in the IPB. When an assembly or part (including vendor items), which is different from the original, was installed during the manufacture of later items, series or blocks, all assemblies and parts are listed (and "Usable On" coded).
However, when the original does not
have continued application, only the
preferred part or assembly is listed. Also, when an assembly or part was installed during a modification, and the original does not have continued application, only the preferred item is listed.
1.3. SYMBOLS AND ABBREVIATIONS.
The following are definitions of all and abbreviations used in the IPB.
