Halloween Title Sequence.

The beginning of the film begins with a black screen. Halloweens well known theme tune then comes on. This makes the watcher feel on edge as it is creates and sinister atmosphere. The titles are then shown on a black backdrop ranging in colour from orange to red. The black background represents no hope and death and orange could potentially represent fire and pumpkins which are linked to Halloween itself. The red then could represent blood, evil, pain and the devil. So far, it is giving off a spooky and rather haunting impression to the viewer. The pumpkin the comes closer metaphorically acting as a timer to the start of the film. At its closest point the title sequence ends suggesting to the viewer that the films is about to begin. Finally, it ends with a new, short title sequence. By this time, the music has stopped and children singing a rhyme about Halloween. The titles are on the black back ground with white writing. White is often represented with peace, purity, new beginnings and innocence which is ironic as the film is the complete opposite of these.

The film begins with a point of view shot as someone is walking towards a white house in darkness. The darkness gives an uneasy sense because as a viewer you can only visually see the house and nothing else. The pumpkin outside the house also tells me that it is on Halloween night. The man later looks up to the top right window to me see that someone has turned it off. There is a use a sharp, high noise to give off a sense of surprise when it happens. The noise follows throughout and when he grabs a knife it gets even sharper making the viewer feel on edge. He then enters the next room which has no light other than the moon which is shining through onto the table. This creates a shadow on the unlit candles and almost makes the room a blue colour. This gives off a haunting, cold and a gloomy atmosphere which also makes the viewer feel on edge at this moment in time.
